A scientific report has some new findings that may cause football fans to take a second look at that communal bowl of dip.

On average, the students found that three to six double dips transferred about 10,000 bacteria from the eaters mouth to the remaining dip.
Each cracker picked up between one and two grams of dip. That means that sporadic double dipping in a cup of dip would transfer at least 50 to 100 bacteria from one mouth to another with every bite.

Nice. I usually give a good cough over the bowl and then lick a few chips before putting them back in the tray.

That is why I always spoon dip onto a plate BEFORE anyone dips anything into it.

I do the same as well. I also always leave a spoon by the dip for everyone to get the hint and maybe put it on their plate.

One of the earlier phrases we taught DS was "No double-dippin'!" 
Even when it's just me and DW sharing dip, we don't double-dip. Unfortunately, with a large crowd, you can't always be sure that everyone is as concerned as you about hygiene.

same i try to get to dip and spoon some out before anyone else has been in it.. especially if children are there. If the children dipped in already then i avoid.. you know they lick and put back.

Although I would have continued to enjoy dips more if I hadn't read this.
I don't think I'll look at dip the same.
But I will continue to double-dip when it's just me and DH, despite his glares.

I never dip outside of my house because of the grossness I once witnessed.
I saw a lady eat a buffalo wing suck on the bone then she dipped that bone back in the blue cheese and used it as a scoop to get more blue cheese
If you think the germs on dips are bad steer clear of the cookies and mints on the counter in Diners. They have traces of feces and urine on them YUMMY!!
