Just like if I said most people in your family are stupid - I am clearly not comparing you to one another. I'm comparing you to the general population, not just to one another.

Geez, was this comment really called for? Are you going to claim you're not being as petty, nasty, or immature here as you're calling out other people? How is this part of the civil discourse you claim to want others to engage in? I'm not seeing where anybody mentioned your family.

I'm being both funny and immature at the same time, since Hofstra was clearly not understanding how the statistics she was seemingly such an expert on actually worked.

Stop obsessing over me on this thread and move on already. Your argument made no sense which is why I walked away from arguing with you. It's time to let it go, you're just embarrassing yourself at this point.

OMG this is so funny. Even after my very simple example you still do not understand how it works. Sweetie, I was an accounting/finance major and I took many advanced stats classes. The only one embarrassing themselves here is you.

And I am not obsessing on you - I was simply pointing out how ironic it was that you tried to school me on how most Americans are not that bright and then you called half of American's "dumb AF." I am assuming if half are dumb AF, then some are probably just plain dumb but not quite dumb AF, and then a few are "not that bright," so maybe you actually agree with me after all that most American's overall are not that bright. Follow my logic? Probably not.

Texas is open!

In other news, the NYC variant has went from 12% of tested samples to 26% in one week. It is all over NY state, as well as in several states and countries. We don't know enough yet to know if it's a true variant of concern. But yes, let's open everything 100% and hope for the best. As long as the scared stay home, everything will be fine. I fear what happens when some of these people experience the terror and loss that comes with covid. Maybe then they will get it.

The thing is people are still going to be getting it regardless. Its just something that is going to be around. I think that we CAN open and be safe. I think the mental effects are worse. I'm honestly exhausted. Not that I am.a huge partier, but I'd like to be able to go hang at a bar with my friends and do karaoke. My best friend is getting married in 2 weeks. I have not seen her in person in over a year and I'm supposed to not dance with with her? I'm supposed to have a POD that I can only dance with people at my table. I mean come on LOL. I think we are informed enough to make our own decisions at this point. I continue to.wear masks and social distance, not saying that but I just want some sense of normalcy back

I don't disagree with your desire for normalcy. Trust me, my son's birthday is March 25th, he is going to have a second covid birthday. He is so sad about it and my heart breaks for him. My twin girls birthday is March 9th, I cancelled their party last year because things were just starting to get bad. This year they are also not having a party. I am sad for my kids more than myself. I get all of that. I think if we didn't have these variants, I would be more on board with more opening. These variants really worry me. B 1.1.7 took over the UK quite rapidly. They are only beginning to emerge from lockdown this coming Monday after being under one since December 17th in London.
This NYC variant is giving me migranes. NY states progress has stalled. We are better off than we were in December and January, but we baselined as a very high number- still 6,000-8,000 people being diagnosed each day, with up to 700 people being admitted into hospitals each day. Yes, there is good news. Hospitalizations continue to drop, for every 700 people admitted, about the same or more are discharged. At one point over 1,000 people a day were being admitted- so the hospital issue is continuing improvement. My only hope, and my opinion, is that even though case counts have never really dropped below 6,000 a day, hospitalizations are continuing to fall due to the elderly being vaccinated. They make up a large number of the hospital admissions.
I don't know. Listen, I am depressed and miserable just like everyone else. I just don't want to be depressed and miserable any longer than I have to be by messing this up and causing another surge that will put us back into the dark days of March and April 2020.

I don't want to be debbie downer but there are going to be variants for years to come. It is actually somewhat insulting when people assume that those who want everything open simply can not comprehend the loss that comes with covid. I know many people who have lost people tragically (including myself) from things other than covid and can certainly relate to how devastating it can be. However I still want to see the restrictions lifted. Try not to make it such a simple issue and try to listen to what the other side is saying and you might find they have valid reasons for wanting fewer restrictions or certain restrictions in particular lifted.

You need to turn off the TV and stay away from the fear mongering media for a bit. You will thank yourself and be a little more relaxed.

I understand what you are saying. But unfortunately that is not how it works, not in NY anyway. I guarantee you if these variants take off, we will be put back into lockdown. I am genuinely concerned that by this time next month, we will be under a stay at home order and all schools will be closed. I'd rather keep some restrictions and let my kids stay in school.

Thank you. Hope you don’t get slammed like I did saying it would be nice to see a band or dance at a wedding or dare, get a pedi next to my friend or hubby. We are all aware of the most important things we need and want back but it doesn’t mean we crave other normalcy and social things.

I can’t tell you what to do and feel but honey, you really need to walk away from all of this. Do your kids go to school? They are out there and I think they can have a bday party. Even Cuomo is saying we can have 25 people outside and 10 inside (not that they can stop you from 26 and 11 lol).
The flu has different strains every year. We never flipped out that this particular strain could kill us as maybe it could.
You are more likely (god forbid as I hate saying bad things like this) to be in a car accident then to die from covid.

Yep and this is coming straight from the government and media who want is locked down and reliant on them forever.
If you actually just go out without fear, you will see how great it is.

Everyone wants normal life back but it's really not as simple as "open it all up". The notion that we can open it all up and trust people to do the right thing is wishful thinking.
We're not on lockdown, most things are open in some capacity and soon enough we'll get to a point where life will be more normal. We have to give the vaccines a chance to do their job.

Again FL is mostly open, as well as other states. Let’s see how TX and MI do.
CA is locked down and their numbers are not going down.

California cases are down drastically from the December and January surge.
Florida also has the most varient cases in the US.
And, new york is pretty open. People act like we are in strict lockdown.

I am not sure why people keep whining about opening the schools, schools have been open since September. Most things are open, just not venues which draw large crowds together. I am sick of COVID but it's certainly a thousand times better than this time last year.

We're very lucky here about schools. I count my blessings daily that my daughter has been in school, in person, full time since Sept. And now she said they are even starting to allow them to leave the class for specials like art and gym- earlier in the year the specials would come to them and it was hard on the kids never getting to leave the classroom all day.
And the middle and high schools are starting to be allowed back every day too- no more hybrid.

Your DD is lucky, right now my kids still cannot move about the building. We started in hybrid but as things improved they added days, they are back 5 days a week now. They come home a little early, they don't do lunch in school. Grrr Hoping soon we go back to a full day. I am relieved they are back at all, last spring was torture with remote learning every single day.

Because some schools are still not open. And many kids aren't going to school much at all. My one son (in 3rd grade) just got a 3rd day a week and my other son (in 5th grade) will be starting 3 days every other week next week. So to me, although they are open, I don't think that's good enough.

Not all schools are fully open and many are hybrid with some only going 2 days a week.

We're 5 days a week finally but still not full day. I agree, they need to open more but I'll take this over the situation last spring. That was hell.
