Temper Tantrums

At what age did you notice your child having temper tantrums? I swear once Jared hit 9 months old...he started squealing at the top of his lungs and throwing himself back.

Everytime I leave the room to get something and he is in his walker or on the floor playing....he starts screaming.Chat Icon

I want to wear earmuffs it's so LOUD!!!Chat Icon

Re: Temper Tantrums

It sounds more like seperation anxiety to me.
When Jack got like that we tried our best to nip it in the butt especially since Dh was going to gone for a while. My doc told me at around 8 months they realize they are seperate from you and they really notice if you leave and it freaks them out. We did alot of peek a boo, and getting him used to me leaving the room for a bit but then shortly coming back so he learned that Mommy always comes back. It has worked really great.
Hopefully it will continue to work well when Dh gets back. He hasen't seen my husband in over 2 months so hopefully he doesn't freak out when my husband gets back and then leaves for work again. My doc thinks we will be OK because Dh did alot of exercises with Jack before he left getting him used to him leaving and that babies can't tell long periods of time so to Jack it just seems like a few hours rather then 60+ days.
Also he is really comforted by my Dog so if I leave the room luckily Byron (my beagle) sticks around and that makes Jack happy..lol

Re: Temper Tantrums

I've read it starts about 9 months... I have no experience w/ it yet but I think it's a normal phase. Joseph is doing it a bit now when we take a toy or something he shouldn't have away from him. Don't give it - then it'll just continueChat Icon

Earmuffs might not be a bad option for a few daysChat Icon

Re: Temper Tantrums

Ryan does this now...

I swear, he could be playing so nice, but if I leave the room, or take away something, he squeels, arches his back, and jerks himself around...

Re: Temper Tantrums

Marissa, that's exactly what Jared's doing..the arching of the back, etc...

I guess this is a phase and that he'll get over it. I just thought there was something I could do to nip it in the bud...Chat Icon

Re: Temper Tantrums

Nate has both separation anixety and throws temper tantrums.

I can't leave the room to go to the bathroom without the kid screaming at the top of his lungs like someone is hurting him.

And lets not forget the temper tantrums.... The other day he was sitting in my lap while I was dressing him. He grabbed the remote and put it in his mouth, so I took it away. He jerked his body, screaming and knocked his big 'ol head into my lip. It really took some restraint to not start cursing.... I had a fat lip for 2 days bc of him.

I fear that I haven't even gotten the worst of it yet. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ummmm now Chat Icon I don't know if I would call them tantrums per se but if I have to take something away from Miranda that she shouldn't have or move her from playing if it's time to go somewhere etc. She screams and cries about it. I am trying to make myself talk to her when she does this and exlain why I am taking something away or why we have to go becuase I know it will only get worse and they say kids react to your reaction. I figure practice will make perfect...right. Chat Icon

Re: Temper Tantrums

John just started with his seperation tantrums. He has thrown anger/frustration tantrums since he was like 6 months old, mainly when I try to dress him.

He "curses" at me if I take something away from him (thats what DH & I call it he mumbles and talks gibberish), or he will throw himself on the floor. I walk away from him or stop paying attention.
