Teal Pumpkin question
I want to do the Teal Pumpkin thing this year for Halloween. We have little tubs of play doh to give out. My question is if you have a teal pumpkin outside your house, does that mean you ONLY can give out non-food items? Or can you give out candy as well to kids who can eat it? Can you put both the candy and the non-food items in the same bowl, or do they need to be separate?

Re: Teal Pumpkin question
You can give both. I would just do separate bowls to avoid confusion

You place a teal pumpkin (we have a teal pumpkin flag) outside, so kids with allergies know that your house has allergy-friendly items. Usually non-food items. We do erasers, stickers, and odds and ends that DD likes to pick out.
We also have candy for other kids. We keep everything separated. We also offer both items at the same time, so the kids don't have to feel out of place by having to ask for the teal pumpkin items. Sometimes non-allergy kids prefer the non-food items as well, so that's fine, too.

Teal Pumpkin question
I do both - I have a pumpkin full of candy and one full of non food items (this year I think it will be sticky lizards since we have a ton).
We aren't home though when the ToTers come so I'm not sure who is taking what though but, at least I try!

Re: Teal Pumpkin question
First off just want to say I love that the Teal Pumpkin is picking up and I think it's so nice you are doing it!!
We do two baskets just to keep everything separate. I will say that we stick with toys etc things that have no allergy problem whatsoever. Play dough contains wheat and gluten..so kids who are allergic to wheat or have celiac like my son would not be able to touch it.

This is why I don't leave bowls out when we aren't home. It sucks but I can't have one or 2 brats taking all our stuff. It's not fair. We do a few blocks of TOTing with DD then we go home to give out candy. Anyone we miss while we are out, oh well....

We worry about this as well. While we are out (which isn't super long), we leave out some candy and non food items, but not the whole lot. This way, when we get back we still have more left to give out.

I didn't realize that, thanks for pointing it out. I will get something else to give out.

We're hesitant to leave the bowls out as well. 2 years ago our bowl with all the candy in it was stolen.

I usually have a few things, the older kids usually take the glow bracelets or dracula teeth. They can wear them for the night and toss them, as a parent I prefer disposable things and not clutter lol.

Re: Teal Pumpkin question
These are some great ideas. I wasn't thinking of doing the teal pumpkin, but now I think I will. (A big part of the reason is selfish - I don't want to have any candy in the house, because I'll eat too much of it , but now with such great ideas, I can serve both purposes ). I think we'll just do all toys/favors, no candy

As a diabetic, I love the fact that most people are going with non-candy items. Diabetics may not have any allergies, but Halloween really sucks when everything is sugar-based. Having non-food items lets diabetics get involved, too.
