Teal Pumpkin Project

Did anyone participate? I was disappointed, not one house had a teal pumpkin or non-food treats. Looks like the switch witch is coming tonight to trade candy for toys for my allergy kids.

Re: Teal Pumpkin Project

I may consider for next year.

We had drama in my program early this week with candy and treats because of patients with swallowing issues/allergies so I'm thinking of banning it altogether, especially on the days when these people are in....

I never heard of this, so didn't have a teal pumpkin...but always have stickers or goldfish for little ones/allergy kids.

I did it! My son has food allergies, so I learned of it from various groups. I also had a sign displayed, but none of the children (or parents) mentioned allergies and I felt funny asking so I didn't end up giving out any of the non-food treats--I'll just save them for next year.

However, I didn't see a single teal pumpkin. That's ok though...even at barely 4, my son dumped out all his candy and gave me all of the unsafe ones himself--which, God bless him, were at least 1/3 to 1/2 his candy. Aw!

Re: Teal Pumpkin Project

We gave out tattos as well as non-allergy candy, but did not put out a teal pumpkin. I didn't see any on her trick or treating.

I did it. I put out two bowls on a table outside my house while we went out trick or treating, one with candy and one with little toys. I put out a sign but didn't say that only kids with allergies could take the non-food treats. Both bowls were empty when we got back.

I did it! I had all non candy treats and painted a small plastic pumpkin teal. I went a step further... I run a moms group on Facebook for my town. I put down the name of my block and encouraged other parents who were participating in the teal pumpkin project to do the same that way the parents who have kids with allergies would be able to know exactly where they could go to get safe treats. Not many participated though. I'm going to look into ways this year for the town to participate.

We went ToTing in 3 different neighborhoods and I didn't see a single teal pumpkin. I don't think many people know about it.

I hadn't heard of it so we didn't participate but I would in the future (although I only got 2 TOTers).

For those who are dealing with food allergies, we TOT in Patchogue village and they do a great event. We go through the stores and the kids get both candy and a token which is a little toy. After you collect the tokens you can go to the coffee shop and the teacher's union gives them a prize. Last year DD got a puzzle and a magnadoodle and this year she got a full sized coloring book, crayons, and a little doctor kit. It's really cute and she doesn't mind at all that I confiscate her candy once we get home bc she still has tons of goodies to play with.

I didn't see any at all, but I didn't think too many people would participate anyhow. Doesn't seem like something that would take off right away...

Re: Teal Pumpkin Project

I had stickers, but not the teal pumpkin. I just didn't have time to paint one or buy one. I saw only 2 houses with the pumpkin. I think it's a great idea and hopefully next year it will spread even more.

Only 1. We went to an area in our neighborhood where everyone goes trick or treating and people decorate elaborately. This woman had tons of beautifully carved orange and white pumpkins and right in the middle, one solid teal pumpkin.
It was sad that out of the 100+ homes that participate, I only saw 1.

most of the homes gave out candy treats, one home gave out pennies, and another had little pretzels with a sign. the house with the teal pumpkin didn't give out anything. Chat Icon

We were also asked by one person if we had allergies. But I didn't see any teal pumpkins.

They start at 3. The stores that participate put a pumpkin, witch, or ghost up in their window but it really is almost all of them. Then you go to Roast for the big prize. It's a lot of fun and DD took home a ton of loot this year!

Re: Teal Pumpkin Project

I didn't see any. I also think it's because it really wasn't advertised enough or put in the media enough. I didn't hear about it until the night before Halloween and before that I've never even heard of this. I think if it was put out there more media wise, more people would have participated. I think the problem is very few people even know about it.
