St. Patrick's day leprechaun?

Do kids believe in a leprechaun the same way they believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny these days? I don't remember getting a "visit" or any gifts from a leprechaun when I was a kid, but my kindergartener came home from school and was adamant that we make a trap for the leprechaun Chat Icon Did I drop the ball? Was I supposed to have a gift or something prepared from a leprechaun? Chat Icon She told me all about how the leprechaun came to her class and played tricks and moved things around in the classroom and she really seemed to believe it really happened, so I hope she's not disappointed tomorrow! I have some snacks I can put in a basket for her, and some chocolate gold coins left over from Christmas - would that be good enough? Chat Icon

Re: St. Patrick's day leprechaun?

It is a huge deal at my kids' school so in turn, it became a big deal at our house...I will be decorating the house with lots of green stuff tonight and leaving treats in their leprechaun house that they built and sprayed gold. It's honestly exhausting and I wish that I never started it! Between this, 30 days of the elf, Easter, Valentine's Day...too much!!

My Kindergartner came home and told me all the things she needs to build a Leprechaun trap. She also mentioned she's getting gold coins tomorrow. Before she went to bed, she asked what we're doing for St Patrick's Day. I didn't have anything special planned. Just green shirts.

We don't do anything. We are part Irish, but all we do is wear green shirts & have shepherd's pie for dinner. My Pre-K son also had the "leprechaun" come to his classroom today and left a miss, and some coins for the kids. But, we don't do it at home.

It's bad enough Easter is 2 weeks away and I feel underprepared bc I didn't buy anything for their baskets yet, and we do the elf, but all i do is move it around the house, I don't make any elaborate set ups like some parents do. Now I have to come up with leprechaun stuff too!?!?!

St. Patrick's day leprechaun?

I do not do anything special for St. Patrick’s day. We don’t do an elf either- I told my dd that the elf would scare our dog- if she asks about a leprechaun I will tell her the same thing.

DD's daycare did this today and apparently all the kids (2 yrs old) were TERRIFIED of the leprechaun. The teachers ransacked the room, made green footprints leading out the window. When I picked her up the kids came running to me screaming "Leprechaun made a mess!" and one little boy looked scarred for life. I don't have a sensitive bone in my body but even I felt really bad for the kids, especially the little boy. I'm not sure what they were thinking.

So I don't think anything leprechaun related would go over too well in my house right now!

Chat Icon Omg! Those poor kids! Is this whole leprechaun thing something that a bunch of teachers saw on Pinterest, or something!?!? Chat Icon I never heard of teachers doing this before . I was an Elementary teacher before dd was born, and I don't remember any of the teachers where i worked doing this. I'm kind of annoyed that dd's teacher made such a big deal about the leprechaun and apparently told the kids they need to go home and make a leprechaun trap. Like, seriously? The day before the holiday, now I'm supposed to scramble to put together some leprechaun nonsense? Chat Icon

I remember my classroom being messed up by the leprechaun in elementary school in the late 80s, so it's not too new, but I think parents feeling obligated to buy stuff from the leprechaun is new.

They sometimes do something in school with it, but we never do anything at home. Dd doesn't expect or mention it ever. We don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day at all though. It has never been a blip on my radar to be honest.

Ugh my kids have been in a tizzy about the friggin leprechaun all day. It was a big thing at both their schools, and they've been talking for days about their leprechaun traps. All I did was bought Lucky Charms as "bait" to put in their traps. Overnight I'll go eat the Lucky Charms and replace them with some gold chocolate coins. That's it. I'm not ransacking the place or putting green food coloring in the toilet bowl to make it look like leprechaun pee (which happened in both their classrooms)...nope!

Yeah all of this leprechaun stuff definitely originates from the school. Last year we messed up her playroom a bit and cut up green construction paper and threw it around like confetti.

This year she wanted to make a trap, so I let her scroll through Pinterest and she picked one and made it. She left it on the kitchen table with some Lucky Charms, so we crushed up the cereal, opened the kitchen cabinets, moved the kitchen chairs and pulled up the kitchen blind halfway. She was thrilled this morning.

Uggh, dd came down this morning asking if the leprechaun had left her any coins! I hadn't had any coffee yet so I dont even know what I said but for now she dropped it. I have no idea when that became a thing but I'm not interested.

In preschool the past two years the leprechaun played tricks and made a mess in the classroom. She loved it. Thankfully last night the leprechaun turned her mac n cheese green so hopefully that is enough for them.

I was just talking about this. I saw all the leprechaun hi-jinx my friends posted on Facebook this morning. When did this become a thing?

My daughter came home from school yesterday too telling me all the things the leprechaun did in her school. She never mentioned a trap or anything about him coming to our house, so hopefully I luck out there.

St. Patrick's day leprechaun?

No. They do something at school and that’s it. I don’t do the Elf on the Shelf either.
The way things are going my kids are going to be expecting the Flag Day Fairy and Columbus Day Camel to leave crap at our house.

We are part Irish (well me and kids, DH is not at all) and we do some celebrating. My kids are young and the past few years we've done a small version of the Leprechaun thing. He brings chocolate gold coins, pees green in the toilet, strings the toilet paper around the bathroom and brings a box of Lucky Charms. Nothing elaborate but the kids love it and I think it's fun. I don't feel put out by it. I also don't post it on FB but I don't post much at all.

Exactly this, but my DH is part Irish too Chat Icon .. we also do leprechaun “traps”, I don’t see what the big deal is, they use toys and stuff we have around the house and they have a great time.

No!! I refuse to get sucked in to any other holiday elf type characters “visiting” us. I just can’t, the elf on the shelf sucked the life out of me. My kindergartener came home saying the same thing. I said— “We are not Irish and sorry but he is not coming to our house.” He said “Oh. Ok.” And that’s that.
