Spinoff to parties

Since so many have said no to baby showers and birthdays, what will it take for you to go to a party, indoors? Especially for people who got vaccinated. How long will you wait?

Personally, I have been to get togethers and restaurants for the past 9 months, inside and out and have no plan to be vaccinated anytime soon.

Re: Spinoff to parties

I'm vaccinated, my DH is not- we both had Covid- and for an indoor party it would still be at least another at least 4 months for me, we have Disney planned for December and I may end up cancelling that.

I worry God forbid one of my kids gets it and has horrible complications or worse... I couldn't live with myself. I do send my kids to school in person 5 days a week, they are of course masked and behind a shield all day. My DH and I are both essential workers so keeping my kids home isn't a viable option for us, and I do feel like with the precautions my school has taken they are safe in school.

Thanks for your response.
Do your children normally get very sick when they are ill? Why would you think they would have complications?

Thankfully my kids are pretty healthy- my son does have a severe dust allergy and gets shots for that- I worry that his allergy will develop into allergic asthma so that does weigh on my mind.

I think that's just part of parenting for me anyway - the constant worrying over stuff you can control and stuff you can't.

Re: Spinoff to parties

Probably a bit longer. I've seen too many cases where Covid spread at indoor gatherings. We have very close friends who's daughter has some lung issues and our parents are in their 70's. Since we are very close with both and see them often I'd rather not take any chances. I'm sure we'd be fine if we did get it, but why have the fear and possibly spread it. Plus my DH owns his own business where we can't afford to take the chance of getting it or quarantining for 2 weeks bc we were exposed. We are doing are best seeing people outside, wearing masks at indoor places when needed and making the most of life for now.
I do see this getting better soon and looking forward to more "normalcy," but for now this is life and thank goodness the kids and us have been fine.

Re: Spinoff to parties

I just want to know what people are doing when they get together outside when it's been 15 degrees with snow and ice on the ground for the past month?

I'd freeze my ass off getting together with people outside in January and February.

No thanks

Exactly. We joked for the Super Bowl we would have to watch it outside as if you listened to the media, you needed to sit outside with blankets with your own utensils and plates and food. Just ridiculous. We all fared well being inside and gasp, using the same dip too.

I just feel like it’s been a year now. I am ready to move on. Anyone in my family can get ill or hurt at any given time due to different things. I’m ready to LIVE my life. Hospitals know how to treat it now. Elderly are getting vaccinated.

Spinoff to parties

My plan is that in April we will visit my family and my DH's family. We need to travel to see both sides and by April 1st, all the adults in our immediate family will be vaccinated. A kid's party is not worth it to me to potentially need to quarantine. My son needs to be in school and that is my top priority. I also need to be physically at work.

As for gathering outside, my family of 3 goes outside in pretty much all conditions. I live in a colder area and it's normal to see people out walking when it is 0 degrees. If we didn't go outside when it was cold, we'd pretty much be stuck in the house from early December- late March. I'd go crazy!!! If you have the right gear, it is honestly not that bad. Some people enjoy the cold weather. I honestly HATE the cold, but I aim to get my DS outside for a minimum of one hour a day. Luckily during the week, school takes care of that. 30-40 minutes of recess and 40 minutes of PE 3 times a week.

Exactly and if you feel uncomfortable then stay home but let everyone else start living again.

Yes, this!
Recently I landed in the hospital because I took a freak fall on ice and lacerated my face pretty badly among other things.
This was due to a risk I took walking outside of my house that I never really thought about ever.
I think about it all the time now, but before this happened, it was a risk that wasn't even in my mind.
You are 100% right that anything can happen at any time, to anyone. Things you don't even think about ever happening like what happened to me. And worse, way worse things than what happened to me.
There are so many risks in life. You can drive yourself into a mental hospital if you really think of all the things that can kill. maim and injure you everything. Things a hell of a lot more deadly than Covid.

I can see walking outside yes but some were saying getting together with friends. Do people actually hang out outside in the cold and snow just so they won’t be inside?

Yep and people are killing them selves and never even got Covid. It’s all the crap they are denying people to do that is affecting their mental health.

I have mostly lived my life the way I always have except with a mask and keeping my distance from strangers in public. We have traveled extensively. We all had Covid, if I had to guess, my daughter got it from her friend at school because they are 8 and they don't keep their mask on properly all day long, sit next to each other at school and are pretty much in each others faces whenever they can be.

No. we see our neighbors a lot outside, but obviously not freezing out. We live in a culdesac friendly with the neighbors. We all have firepits and gas heaters. For instance last Saturday was nice so kids ran around and we sat around the firepit for happy hour. Spent a lot of time outside last summer and Fall though.

Yeah, we've always been "hang outside with the neighbors" though. Obviously Jan and Feb not so much, but if it's above 40 and not brutal usually a Friday after work we try to get together. I do NOT like the cold, but standing by the gas heater helps and it gets the kids outside playing in the snow or running around.

Yeah I am not into the cold at all so them saying get blankets and sleeping bags to sit outside to watch the game was a joke.

I loathe standing outside in the cold. I have to be near a firepit and then I practically have to be on top of the fire. Which is odd because I ski but you are so bundled up when you ski and the helmet helps. It's one thing to hang outside in the summer but in the winter? No thanks.

Same. If I had to sit outside in the winter to see my friends, I'd rather just not see anyone.
I much prefer to be warm on my couch with a blanket and left the hell alone in that case.

My neighborhood friends are planning a get together. It has to be outside because some of them are extremely cautious. I am dreading it. It's in a couple weeks. Hoping it's warmer by then. If not I might have a covid relapse that night....

Sounds like your neighbors will be playing “is it covid or a cold” from sitting outside in the cold. Makes no sense. But to each their own.

Spinoff to parties

I am vaccinated and will go. I have a wedding to go to on March. I think its absurd that they are making dancing areas and you can only dance with members of your own household. I mean. Are they going to arrest me because I dance in a circle with the bride and groom? I am surprised because I see so many people saying they wouldn't attend a party but then there's all these complaints about how people are sick of all the testicles and just want to live their lives. It just doesnt make sense to me...
