I try to be conscious of it now because my friend prefers Clair-a for her baby but if i say it quick, it comes out Claaara.

Same. But the way it's written here is freaking me out, all I can think of is Hannibal Lecter saying "Clarice" Chat Icon

"Claire" is also a beautiful name but I have honestly NEVER heard anyone say
Claire-a for Clara Chat Icon

That is interesting I have had the opposite experience, I have known a few "Claire-a's" and have never met a "Claaara" but I am Upstate and have found that there are definite differences in pronunciation between Upstate, Downstate, and Long Island.

Claire-a is more of a southern pronunciation, I believe. I hear it a lot around here.

Like Clarabelle cow from Disney, that's how I would think anyone not from the South would say it.

Nah, my friend is from Colorado and she says Clair-a that way so I think it's a midwestern thing too. I think Claaara (the more nasal sounding way) is just a northeastern thing.

ITA! Here in California there are a lot of things that are pronounced that way...

like Aaron is said like "Air-on"
or Erin is like "Air-in"

You have to remember, these people out here in CA say merry, Mary, and marry all the same way! haha Chat Icon

Claaaaara. If you are looking for people to call her "Clarie-A", I'd spell it "Claira". Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to my name post: How do YOU pronounce this name?

See, this is why I can't use this name I think. Again, I am WEIRD and it would drive me nuts to have it possibly pronounced more than 1 way.

I'm from upstate, though not "very" upstate so I don't have a Buffalo/Rochester accent. But anyway, I'm more inclined to pronounce it "Claire-a" than "Claaaara". Though I don't know which way I like it better Chat Icon
