I'm sorry, I think I have at the very least tried to show that I am willing to have a rational discussion on this topic despite my deep, very personal connections to it. I have, as others have, acknowledged that the Gazan citizens themselves are absolutely victims - doubly so because they are oppressed by Hamas.
That said, any contribution to this discussion that refuses to acknowledge Hamas as what it is - a terrorist organization, and attempts to legitimize Hamas by claiming that Hamas is not responsible at all for the situation in Gaza, is offensive and inflammatory. Hamas is a terrorist organization that not only continually fires rockets at Israel, but also oppresses its own people, quashing those who attempt to speak out against them. The government of Israel may be making mistakes, but Hamas is still a TERRORIST organization. If the US doesn't negotiate with terrorists, why should Israel?

Why are they terrorists? Because they wanted change? Do you know that Nelson Mandela was also referred to as a terrorist.
While I recognize and respect the fact for Israel to exist, can we not take a second to step back and look at the reasons why "the Arabs" feel this way?
The 3 boys that were kidnapped and killed were not killed by Hamas.
The IDF soldier that was supposedly kidnapped was not done so by Hamas.
2 major events that were proven untrue as a basis for retaliation, perhaps this whole "driving Jews into the sea" is being misinterpreted. Perhaps the people of Palestine are a little bit upset with the people who are oppressing them?
I don't want to use the word "Jews" because it's the Israeli government.
Have you seen the video of the American Jewish guy that was protesting to Free Gaza and what happened to him?
I also watched the shows geared towards kids, I do think that is awful. But on the other hand there are probably times when that happens (people not being able to get to hospitals)

Are you kidding? Do you know any of the history of the region prior to this conflict? Hamas is labeled a terrorist group by every major Western country. Like ISIS or Al Qaeda or Boko Haram. They ARE a terrorist group. And I DON'T mean Palestinians. I mean Hamas. Yes, Palestinians want change. And they deserve it. Hamas is not being misinterpreted. Their charter and their mandate call for death to all the Jews and the total destruction of Israel. There is no misinterpreting.

Yes Hamas is a terrorist organization and yes they want change Hamas wants to destroy Israel and kill every person who does not agree with their line of thinking. That's the kind of change they want. People can not get to hospitals because Hamas has rigged all their ambulances with bombs. They don't care if their own people get medical care only that Israelis should be killed. Just listen to every video or speech they have every made about their neighbor Israel!

If that is the case why are they asking for a truce? They want the blockade removed but they also state that in can be internationally supervised. I do not feel as if their requests are unreasonable. Between the 2 threads I think that great points were made on both sides, however many of the claims being made are from not reliable sources.
Unfortunately, we live in a society that makes arabs, muslims, and terrorist one in the same. I think that many people have chosen appropriate language on this thread, but some things that I am seeing being reposted on FB are really scary.
For example:
"The world would be a happier and safer place if we wiped them off the face of the earth. All they do is breed terrorists, this will never end if we don't
We have terrorists right in our own backyard and yet our president supports them. It's ********. I support Israel and so should everyone else"
"cease fire?????? we abide by a cease fire and these terrorist bastards run like snakes through the tunnels and kidnap one of our own???? THIS IS WHY THE NATION NEEDS TO STAND WITH ISRAEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are dealing with SCUM!

Let's not confuse the Palestinians with their government. I think that is where a lot of the problems lie. Palestinians = Hamas. There becomes a mindset where it's OK to target civilians or UN shelters ( for the third time in so many weeks yesterday) because they are one and the same.

That is true that during a war innocent people will get hurt, but there has to be proportionality. There have been 66 deaths in Israel. Most of these were soldiers. The death count in Gaza has reached past 1,500 with the UN estimating 70% of those people are civilians.

How many times does it need to be said that Hamas are hiding weapons in schools, mosques and hospitals!?!
Their own weapons landed on that un school and they blamed idf. They are playing the media and the rest of the world for fools! They are using Palestinians as human shields and pawns in their own game. Hamas is putting children in harms way.
