Spinoff to gross houses on MLSLI
What would you do if you looked at it and realized it was owned by someone you know? I'd probably keep my mouth shut for fear that people would think I was the same way b/c I knew them.
I told DH a few weeks back that I'm scared that when we put this house on the market in a few years, I'll see a post on here bashing my decorating or something.

there was a huge blow up on LIW a few years ago about people posting pics of houses that they thought were gross. Some took offense to it because what is one mans garbage is anothers treasure. so people need to remember that when criticizing things!! KWIM??

I am sorry if that post offended you. I felt the same way when my parents decided to sell their house.. I know I couldn't bear to read any negative comments about the house I grew up in and love dearly. But there were no posts about it!
I don't think people post to be mean, they only do it when you see something really unbelievable - like the rotten floor

I think there is a complete difference between a home that is NMS and completely gross. I think most people will agree that pictures of mold, waterspots, cracked foundations, dog pee floors, pet dropings, etc. are gross and will point that out since those things should be fixed.
A house that is NMS - well we all have different tastes and prefer different things. That is what makes the world go round.

WHo cares if they bash your place? Thats like people bashing your neighborhood. People get so defensive over things like this. If I say something like "MEDFORD *****"... people who live in Medford will be like W-T-F.
I live in Levittown... people can say all they want its trashy where I live. I say fine. 
Remember...
#1 there is a buyer for every house.
#2 there isn't a single house in this entire state that EVERYBODY will like. There will always be somebody who doesn't like what you have.

I wasn't offended at all. Before I clink the link I always think "Imagine if it was a house that someone I went to school with lived in" or something. I'd feel bad for them, but believe me, I'm laughing along with everyone else.
I know that if this house was actually put on the market by my ILs before we bought it for sure it would have been up here. It was a nightmare! Crap everywhere, filthy dirty carpets, dark paneling in every room, the list goes on and on. MIL just isn't into housekeeping at all, and she thinks I'm exagerating how long it took me to clean up. It would have been funny to hear what people had to say.
Like we kept most of the same service companies (oil, alarm, etc) that they had and anytime we've had service the people always remember how it was and say "I hope you got a good deal on this house, it was a real sh!t hole! The last owners were disgusting." It makes me laugh for hours after they leave.

and i can see why some drama had occurred in the past...
as well as on here if i remember correctly...
I mean honestly...why do people feel the need to do this?
And would you feel bad if someone here HAD owned one or was going to buy one?

I agree, my house is on MLS and I think I would feel pretty crappy if people put it down.

no...but saying that a town..where a LARGE group of people live is crappy
as OPPOSED to my HOME where ME and my family live is crappy...is a much more personal thing...

if i finally found one i wanted to buy to come here to see people make fun of it...

I agree that if it was my house I'd be upset. I hadn't seen anything really mean, just the stuff with rotting floorboards and mold on the walls and stuff which is gross. Why wouldn't the realtor just skip posting those pictures? I didn't realize that it had been a problem in the past.

i have seen somethings on here that i felt were kinda wrong..

I remember someone getting offended becuase I think their home was SIMILAR to something someone had posted and was making fun off...
Maybe none of us OWN the homes that have been made fun of but who knows how spic and span everyones house is on here...
I can see how making fun of homes can be offensive to some.

I'm sorry but this is gross. Period. I don't care who's house it is in - even if it was in my own house - it is gross and disgusting and unsanitary.
People are trying to sell this house. The other pics were fine, but this one was disgusting. It should notr have been posted if they were trying NOT to gross people out.
This floor should have been cleaned and repaired or removed - this is unsanitary and is breeding GOD knows what kind of bacteria. It's GROSS.
I'm not making fun of anyones house - there i s nothing to make fun of - this is just plain disgusting.
If someone sees my post about how gross it is and this is their house and they are offended, they still know its completely gross!!!
ETA: If you live like this - you need to rethink the way you are living. If you dont want people to call your house gross then either clean it or dont post it online for all of the Internet to see.

well i think unless you know the person..and know how they lived or what caused this damage i think your opinion is a tad harsh
and honestly...who cares anyway?
