Spinoff to eating Sushi..why we arent suppose to eat it.
It has nothing to do with Bacteria...its b/c of parasites.
Cooking would kill off any parasites that the fish may contain. As would freezing. Sushi restaurants in Japan dont serve FRESH SEAFOOD..they freeze the fish they buy and then serve it.
So dont worry about our cooked sushi becoming contaminated with the raw seafood...in this case its not issue.
Additionally the rule of thumb with food and keeping it contaminate free is "keep hot food hot and cold food cold".. So as long as you see your sushi place doing what they are suppose to do EAT AND ENJOY...
(My family owned restaurants for years and I had to constantly go to seminars on food and keeping things healthy for the patrons etc...)

I don't know...I think the whole "what we're not supposed to eat" list is pretty stupid. What do pregnant Japanese women eat in Japan?

LOL they eat sushi!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!! My friend and her DH were stationed over their for years....

Yet I've read articles of listeria being found in sushi (heres one I just found doing a super quick search Denver Post)
How can you possibly know how your sushi place handles their food all along the way?

Also what about the Europeans that eat soft unpasturized cheese? I'm sure there are plenty of them out there.

You are correct...Listeria is a very real threat to all of us preggos...and is a major culprit...But Listeria is a threat to ALL foods that arent handled properly..whether cooked or not cooked...
We have E-Coli, Salmonella, Listeria...etc are all threats when the foods we eat arent handled properly..
But when speaking specifically about Sushi..the reasons behind us not being able to eat it ...is the parasites....
And with Raw Clams its Hepatitis...
The thing is that while pregnant we simply cant take the risks that we take on a daily bases..and honestly you take those risks whenever you dont prepare your own foods...You just have to hope that the staff is properly trained in food management...and that the manager on duty is diligent.
