due to the current financial mess, even if you have a job, will you be cutting back on how much you spend on holiday gifts?

Definitely! We normally spend the holidays in Flordia, but not this year. Gifts won't be as extravagant as normal, except for our niece and nephews.

Kind of. I hope to tutor more to use that money and I hopefully hope to get my pay increase to help out, too.

I have started my list and the amounts spent on people will be less, that is for sure.

YES!!!!! DH and I both agreed we weren't going to go crazy on each other, or our families. Everyone will get something, but it won't be like previous years and that surprise vacation we wanted to give to his parents as a thank you for a year's worth of help/xmas gift/retirement gift just crashed down as we just don't have the $$$ - even if we split with BIL.

I'm so frugal I don't plan to do anything different. I gave up on dropping thousands of dollars on Christmas years ago.
I make things for special friends & relatives, I buy something really nice for my Mom & MIL, I spend a set amount on our nieces, our kids get some clothes & one other thing & money in their bank accounts.
We stopped exchanging with the adults because its silly. Everyone has everything they need.
Last year we adopted 1 family from our church & one from Newsday & I donated gifts to Momma's house.
To me THAT is the spirit of Christmas & I won't cut back my donations in anyway.

we don't plan on cutting back as of now. We don't do huge presents and exchange with that many family members and luckly right now, were doing ok.

Yeah, we don't buy many gifts to begin with, so I don't think I need to change. Our financial situation also hasn't changed that much, except for increased gas & oil costs.

Maybe between each other. I have DH's 30th birthday 2 weeks before Christmas and we are going to Mexico. I am trying to save money here and there. But I am going to be looking for some really good deals this year LOL

Yes, but not so much because of the economy, but because our twins should be arriving right about that time.

We are cutting back, strickly because we are having a baby in Jan. Im not shopping this year. Im just doing the kids in the family and if it can't be bought online, it wont be.

I think the holidays are out of control with gifts and who gets what and how much it costs. Im greatful, I have a child on the way and a great DH. I could give to poops about a gift at this stage of the game. JMHO!

We are going to try to cut back a bit this year - meaning sticking closer to the budget and trying to avoid last minute generosity (that's what hits my wallet the hardest)

Re: Spinoff to Christmas Gifts - will you be cutting back this year?

Yes, I've done this last year, With my family they get 2 gifts each, Dh this year i will spend a little more on.And if my friends want to exchange gifts this year i'll still do it.. But the most i try to spend is$20-$30 for each person, It may seem like alot,But it isn't.

yes cutting back a great deal... not exchanging with a lot of our friends for starters and spending less on each other and our family members.
