Spinoff to 'at a loss for words' post...

what do you call your child's privates?

right now i have to admit that i affectionately call it "his little winky'. Chat Icon

but i'm thinking that starting very soon i'm going to switch to "penis" and stop using other words.

what words are you teaching your child?

We call our DD's a CHACHI .

I can't see any harm with a nickname.
I am sure plenty of us used one as a child and we don't go around using them at out age...

I think whichever a person chooses is fine.

We call it a "pee-pee" just like the Italian song we sing to him.

I respect that parents use the "proper term" and would like some respect that we do not. We chose a word we are comfortable with...obviously at 18 my son won't be referring to it as a pee-pee. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to 'at a loss for words' post...

I always use proper words. I don't like the nickname thing...a penis is a penis, poop is poop and a fart is yes....a fart. My mom has heart failure everytime DS says he farted, but it is what it is.....for us anyway.

i totally respect that! the most important thing, imo, is that the parents be comfortable with the language they use, so that the child will also be comfortable. Chat Icon

Not that it matters, but "poop" and "fart" are hardly proper terms for those bodily functions. The "proper terms" would be: bowel movement/feces and flatulatance.Chat Icon

To the original question: we call it her wee-wee. When she was really little, we called it her "kitten" as a joke. BM are "poo-poo" and farts are "toots".

When she's older, we'll probably switch to the real term for her vagina.

interesting... we use "poop" or "stinky" or "yuckety" for BM. we don't have a word for flatulence yet Chat Icon

i'm wondering for myself why i'll switch to "penis" but will probably never use a term like "bowel movement" or "flatulence". for some reason i feel silly using these latter proper terms. Chat Icon

I just can't bring myself to teach her the proper term for her parts. So her V is her Pachoot and her butt is her butt. Poop is poop, etc.

Well, really- have you EVER heard an adult use the term flatulance or bowel movement? It's weird. We just use more "grown-up" nicknames when we are adults.

DH's SIL INSISTED on using the term bowel movement with his nephew. She then shortened it to "BM" when she realized the poor kid couldn't even say "bowel movement". Chat Icon

We call his little penis his "pee-she" (that's the best way I can spell it like it sounds)

I think we got it from DH's grandmother.

I've always called them penis and vagina, the other words would feel silly coming out of my mouth.

Kind of hard to explain...

I teach them the proper words for their private parts...and will use them in a serious discussion...etc..

But we'll use tushy or hiney or nips etc...if we are joking around...

Does that make sense?

Re: Spinoff to 'at a loss for words' post...

We call them her privates.

To each their own. They ARE private, so I don't think it's wrong. And I don't mind her not saying the word "vagina" for many years. "Privates" is a pretty standard term for them, so if she ever needs to tell someone about them (like me or a doctor), most people would know what that means.
