Spinoff SAHM

What happens when your children are in school full time?

Are you planning on staying a SAHM or will you think about getting a job?

Re: Spinoff SAHM

I'm not sure if I'll be a SAHM or where my career will lead me, but I'd like to be SAHM, and this si why teaching seems pretty ideal, I'll be home when the kids are home and working when they are in school. If I'm not a teacher, I'll defintiely get at least a part time job when they kids go to school, Hopefully I'll have some kind of at home career in arts or I'll be directing which will let me work nights and be home during the day

ETA I'd go crqzy being home all day. I'd ahve to do SOMETHING consructive. EVen when the kids are little, I'd like to leave them with grandma one day a week to work part time or do crafts or spend time at the gym or something

I'm not planning to be a SAHM but if I was, I don't the point of staying home full time after the kids are in school full time. At that point I would certainly at least work part time.

Re: Spinoff SAHM

most likely I will stay home with my daughter until she starts school, then I will go back to school to finish my bachelor and hopefully go back to work.
Honestly, it seems I might have to go back to work sooner than what I wanted to, just because it's becoming very hard to live with just one salary.Chat Icon

Ideally I will get a job in a school so that I will have the same days off as my kids.

Re: Spinoff SAHM

IF I do get the opportunity to be a SAHM, I would probably get a PT job when my children are in school full-time, just to keep me occupied.

As soon as Danielle was in pre-school, I went back to work, and school full time!!! It was extremely hard, but worth it!!

Re: Spinoff SAHM

No I am going to still stay at home. I feel like just because my child is in school, I still have a household to take care of. I don't want to come home from work tired, cook, clean, help with homework, give baths, get ready for the next day, put kids to bed, and find time to be a wife. I want my days to be for homemaking, and my afternoons and nights to be spend on my kids and husband. The ladies I work with have children in school, and they don't seem to have any time at all. I want to cook dinner everyday. I don't want my weekends to be filled with catching up on cleaning that I could not do during the week. I want to be able to go to little league games and enjoy our together time. (This would not be possible if I stayed in NY, so we are relocating)

Re: Spinoff SAHM

My big plan for when Emma, Jeremy, possible #3 & #4 are in school is to sit around the house and do NOTHING for the first year atleast! I deserve it! Being a SAHM is sooo exhausting being on call 24-7 that Im going to need atleast a year to recoopChat Icon After that I may go out and get a flexible PT job just to occupy my time.

Re: Spinoff SAHM

I would love to be a SAHM mom and have a small part time job (when we have kids)... But when they go to school I would like to work while they are in school and be home when they are.

I would love to teach in the school my children are attending so I could keep tabs on them. Just kidding.

I don't know. I was thinking that if I could have ANY job and wanted to do something part time for pocket money, I would love to work in a bookstore. Something interesting that I could leave at work when the workday was over.

That's just a fantasy, though. I doubt I will be able to be a SAHM, with the exception of the six weeks I get off for leave. Though I probably won't teach summer school anymore.

Re: Spinoff SAHM

When all of my kids are in school I will probably get some type of job. I have no idea what because I don't honestly know what I would be qualified for at that point other than chnaging diapers and other mommy thing. I know I am so pathetic!

My mother was a SAHM until we went to kindergarten and then she got a job in the schools because she would be able to be home before us. I can only hope I get that lucky because that would be my plan too. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff SAHM

my mom and mil are/were sahm, I know they thought of going to get a job but I dont think it panned out for either one of them as far as myself, I would like to get a job near my house that doesnt require much traveling since my boys are in school fulltime. So I can take them to their afterschool activities easier and not have to rely on other people.
