i already posted on liw, but since you're not reading that  i'll just copy and paste
ok, i'm the minority - but i'd do a friday. after the holiday, people will be a little less stressed about cooking turkey and crap the next day, you know?
but, if you did the wednesday before - i think people would just blow off the holiday or scale back to just a few family members.
ok, so i'm no help whatsoever. but people will get through it whatever you decide to do, they'll just have to find a way

OK - so now we're thinking of changing our minds...Fri might not be so bad.
We can spend Sat and Sun in a nice hotel in NYC that we wouldn't normally do otherwise, then on our anniversary in future years, it's a lot easier to stay in NYC for a night or 2 than it is to fly to Hawaii!
Still not 100% decided though

and the only other thing you need to consider is:
it's nice to think that the people who matter most will be the ones to attend your wedding. In reality, with holiday plans, and work schedules, may make it impossible for some, especially on such short notice. That doesn't mean that they are any LESS important, it may just be the circumstances.
The bottom line is, be ready for someone who you REALLY want there, to not be able to make it. Not your fault, it's your day. Not their fault either. Just the way things work out.
I completely agree with this. Sometimes people have other obligations and can't make it. It doesn't mean that the wedding doesn't matter to them. I really hate when people say 'Whoever really matters will be there.' Just because they might make it there doesn't mean it was easy for them. (They might have to take the day off)
I also don't agree with the notion that it's YOUR day, and you don't need to consider what is easier for your guests.

Um....first off my therapist got married the Wed before Thanksgiving.
Second, one of my closest friends is getting married on a Thurs night.
If given enough advance notice, they'll make it a vacation weekend.
Also....always remember that those that love you and WANT to be there for your special day will make it there!
