Social Security Card Question

Is there a way I can find out if a tax ID # belongs to the person that is claiming it is theirs? Someone wants DH to hire them but said their old company they were working with lost their tax ID card.

Also would a legal migrant have a SSN or a different kind of card so they can work in the US?

I was talking to a friend who works in employment law the other day and I think he said there is a database through social security that a number can be run through to check if it matches the person claiming it.

Maybe your DH can call SS to find out more? Or check to see if his company's HR dept. can check into it?
