social distancing vs. quarantine

Someone clear this up for me: we're advised to socially distance we are NOT in quarantine?

so we should avoid people and keep a distance of 6 feet whenever possible, avoid gatherings of 10 or more BUT i can still take DS for a walk around the park? obviously avoid the playground, but if he wants to throw a football around with his dad or play a round of basketball with him that's fine?

i can't keep my kid inside for 35 more days. we will all go crazy, not to mention if I stay inside more than a week I get migraines.

if/once we go to quarantine, then no going out at all?

Re: social distancing vs. quarantine

I still have to walk my dogs, so we take turns with my son. Tomorrow I will be taking a walk with him to break up the homeschooling. The last time he left the house was Saturday for Kung Fu and I can’t keep him in another day. He doesn’t play video games and he's starting to look depressed. They also closed down his Kung Fu school. I can’t even imagine how he feels doing schooling in the house.

I think I am also going to use this opportunity to teach him how to ride a bike.

Yes you can still take your kids out for walks let them play outside but avoid crowds of more than 10.
This morning cummo that people avoid use the parks and fees have been waived for any that may have them but I don’t know if that has now changed since trump has said no gathering of more than 10

Re: social distancing vs. quarantine

Not quarantine unless you or someone in your household is ill. Or if you know you came into close contact with someone who is ill.

We’ve been taking small walks outside (it’s good for DHs recovery) and ran into some neighbors. I DGAF and said “remember 6 feet guys. He’s still healing” everyone respects the situation and even they were further from each other while chatting doing yard work.

You can still go outside. Walk the dog. Play in the yard - throwing the ball. If you have chalk, draw some hopscotch on the driveway. I don’t know if it’s a borough thing but teach your kids how to play skully. Melt those old crayons into Bottle caps and flick away lol. Man I loved that game as a kid.

If it’s nice out, be out. Unless you’re ill. The stay in but def sit outside on your own patio for some fresh air and sun. Sunlight VitD does amazing things for the immune system !

social distancing vs. quarantine

We’ve been outside for the last three days. Played soccer in our yard over the weekend for 2+ hours. Today we went on a family run/bike ride. I’m not staying inside my house for weeks on end. Just trying to avoid other people. I run with my neighbor in the morning. We keep our distance - it’s not like we’re running on top of each other.

Yup, I walked the park trail with 2 of my friends today. I won't isolate us for weeks on end.

social distancing vs. quarantine

My 4-year-old daughter was playing In the backyard when the next-door neighbor kids came out to do the same in their yard. My daughter and they were talking and trying to play with the fence between them which i didn't mind but the grandmother broke it up and told them they had to go back inside. It breaks my heart cause she's an only child and probably won't have any interaction with kids for a long while.

That was my kids yesterday. Talking through the fence with the kids next door. Oddly enough, it was cute.

I wouldn't have an issue with this. Being outside is the best case scenario.

Am I crazy that I am still taking my kids to the outside playground? I have also let my older guy play sports with his friends. I figured the fresh air is good and they are not so isolated.

Neither of those are recommended. Yes, take them outside to play, but it's recommended to stay off playground equipment and to stay at least 6 ft away from others. The more you come in contact with other people, the circle of contact gets bigger, and causes a bigger risk.

We hang around with 1 other family (my boyfriend and his 4 kids) b/c know how careful he's being and he knows how careful I'm being. But anyone else, they're online contact only. They can play with each other outside (riding bikes, backyard, etc), but not on the playground equipment.

Just bring hand sanitizer to the playground so they can sanitize right after using the equipment. Then a good hand washing when you get home.
It's not airborne.

My son is by himself at home, day 2 and I already feel bad for him. We are in a building with a lot of old people so he hasn’t had any young social interaction with the exception of his class video conferencing.

Oh and This from your article:

“When you do an aerosol-generating procedure like in a medical care facility, you have the possibility to what we call aerosolize these particles, which means they can stay in the air a little bit longer.”

So as long as your kids aren't doing a medical procedure on the play ground.
I think we are good!!

I did not say "coronavirus is airborne." I said, it can survive in air. Which is what every single news source has been saying since last week. It can survive in droplets from sneezing and coughing. The World Health Organization is considering “airborne precautions” for medical staff after a new study showed the coronavirus can survive in the air in some settings.

The virus is transmitted through droplets, or little bits of liquid, mostly through sneezing or coughing, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, told reporters during a virtual news conference on Monday.

This article is from yesterday stating it's new information.
This is why everything is so confusing. I hadn't heard it was airborne either. Now it is. Moreso in a medical surrounding.

ETS: I admit I have not watched the news daily. I can't watch it anymore. It's giving me anxiety.

Oh please for the love of god if you are in a building with a lot of old people don't let your son on playground equipment! The elderly are the most at risk. Playground equipment is a germ fest to begin with. Schools are closed to limit interaction between children. I hope people aren't bringing them all to the playground!

It sort of defeats the purpose of staying in.
Going for a walk, you don’t touch anything. On the playground kids touch everything...and they’re kids...so they will absentmindedly scratch their eyes, stick a finger in their nose, pull a hair out of their mouth.
We’ve been taking walks and playing in the yard.

I believe when they refer to aerosol when it comes to the spread of coronavirus they are referring to when someone coughs or sneezes. The droplets that become airborne are considered aerosol. So yes, you can get it from being out on the playground if your kids are near other kids that cough or sneeze.

Yep! In the town that I live in, the playgrounds are packed. I took a drive just to stave off my claustraphobia yesterday and two of the ice cream places were doing brisk business. People do not get the severity of this at all!

It's really just all about the ME ME ME mentality of this. Everyone is all about doing the best thing for themselves right now and they don't give a crap about anyone else. If most of us or are children get this we will be just fine but we will be spreading it to everyone else. It's when everyone's parents and grandparents start getting ill that we are going to run into problems. Yes, it would be great if everyone over 60 self quarantined but that's not what's happening so it's on the rest of us to act responsibly right now so many of us are not burying our parents this year. This is not a big burden to ask of most people. And having a bored kid for a few weeks is not the end of the world either. Teach your kid to use their imagination a little. We didn't have someone occupying us all the time as kids. I went outside in my backyard and built a fort and played make believe every day.
