WOW! Common courtesy...something VERY lost in the community. People laughing and thinking its funny that an A-hole pissed off someone who probably did need the spot. I am sure your friend didnt open up her window bc there was a spot next to it. This lady was just another "entitled" witch in the world.

this board should change its name to long island situations bc all everyone is concerned about is the what ifs and if they were and they could be a diabetic eating a banana

how about the right now..this time, this instance

I am diabetic. Not sure what your comment has anything to do with the topic??? Is that supposed to be a joke or something.

It's an LIF thing. No matter what situation that might be rude or uncommon someone will throw in "oh but you don't know maybe the person had to eat the food before they paid for it because they're diabetic!" Or "maybe the person had to sit in the parking spot and eat their lunch while you waited for them to leave and take the spot because they have low blood sugar! You just don't know!"

It's more of an ongoing joke.

Sorry but I don't find this funny at all.

Her response was quick, I will give her that. However, when I was 8+ months PG I cherished those spot since I had so much trouble walking just a few feet.

If we are going to argue about this courtesy then let's talk about having a bit of respect for those who are older than we are. There are four pages here of people making assumptions that this woman was rude when we have no clue why she parked there. Perhaps she wasn't feeling well or maybe she was achy or something. Perhaps she wasn't just feeling entitled but needed a break for whatever reason because maybe she was just as achy or exhausted as some of the preggos. I think it's rude to point out that she's in the wrong spot because obviously she saw it and made the decision to park there. A woman who is having a difficult pregnancy can get a temporary parking permit for handicapped spots but an older lady who may just not be feeling very well that day can't get a one-day pass. This shouldn't be that big of a deal.

But then you're making an assumption that just because she's an older woman she has aches and pains. I've had days where I feel like crap, don't feel like parking in the furthest spot and I don't take the pregnancy parking. Everyone has days that just suck and they feel like crap. That doesn't give them the right to park in a spot that isn't meant for them. Should we have spots for people who just aren't feeling well?

These spots are a great idea in theory but its up to the masses to ensure that only the pregnant women use them. The spots on there on the assumption that people will do the right thing and park where they belong.

FTR I am not pro-pregnancy spots. Being pregnant doesn't make a person incapacitated, its just not as easy to walk. But then again, its hard for me to walk after a hard day at the gym. Or when I'm tired after a long day at work. Or when I'm carrying around a 10lb infant, my purse and a 5lb diaper bag. However, the bottom line is- they are there, its a nice idea in theory, but completely up to the masses to do the right thing when it comes to using them.

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..

I think that the woman was incredibly rude. If she did in fact have some trouble walking, shortness of breath, whatever, she could have simply said, "I'm sorry, but I'm not feeling well today, so I need to park closer." Her quick and snarky answer makes me think that there was really no reason for her to park there other than laziness.

I would never think of parking in a spot reserved for pregnant women when I am not pregnant. I did use them regularly when I was pregnant. My feet were swollen, I was tired, and I was happy to park close! I have no problems with those courtesy spots.

I agree completely. That woman is an assshole. In another context I could see how her remark might be clever, but in this situation I dont find anything funny about it at all. Just disgusting.

If you don't find it funny, oh well.

Stick around a bit longer and see how many times people bring up the most amazing "what ifs" in drama threads. The diabetic thing is just a phrase that is a coverall for tons of things people assume. It's not JUST about diabetics. There's always some extenuating circumstance people have to take into consideration.

"You don't know why that person did [insert whatever thing here] maybe they have some rare social disorder that means they only know how to say f**k you because they were dropped on their head as a baby and then were raised by angry wolves then kidnapped by sad pandas and now have a hard time associating with members of the human race. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!!!!!"

Relax. It's a joke. We also make special exceptions for people who are on their way to volunteer to feed rice to the poor children of Calcutta as another poster so eloquently put it. Chat Icon

The point is EVERYONE has a situation. My knee hurts, I had a bad day, I'm a volunteer, I'm pregnant, I'm elderly, I just had a baby, I'm tired, I'm diabetic, I'm a good person, I pay my taxes on time, on and on and on. If we made exceptions for EVERYONE, nothing would get done. The point is where does one draw the line? Why is one person's situation more important than the other person's situation?

I think this thread is really shows some peoples true colors, and it makes all the sense in the world that there's a bunch of spoiled, entitled assholes with far too much time on their hands around these parts.

some supermarkets have the same spots and honestly, i dont see why. Then they should have Senior Citizen spots, single guys getting beer spots, I need chocolate spots and so on and so on.

Right now... on a Long Island senior citizen board a 60 year old woman is complaining about entitled pregnant women these days. How they never had spots when they were pregnant. How some young pregnant woman had the nerve to yell at her for taking that spot. Chat Icon

Did I love the maternity parking YES

Do I LOVE the close spots at the food store for parents with toddlers HELL YES

It's an awesome consideration.

But I think there should also be parking for senior citizens. If you've ever walked your grandma/older mother into the food store, I'm sure you agree. They get winded, cant carry heavy items as much.

I really dont understand how people get so heated about things.

I think the woman sounds like she is probably a jerk. I don't think she'd make that quick sarcastic response if she was legitimately just having trouble walking or something that day.

People say there should be senior parking but I think for the most part that's what the handicapped access is for. My grandpa got one after his heart attack.

The preggo parking is at baby stores where there are tons of pregnant women. That's why imo it's different than just arguing for or against some general notion of "pregnancy parking".

I'm not sure why this lady is getting a pass. Bc she's old? Bc she's funny? or bc people dislike the pregnancy parking in the first place?

I have to admit but comment was funny but in a rude b*tchy way. To everyone that doens't think these spots are "fair or justified" and will park in them just because they can are also rude. What happeend to common courtesy? I'm sorry but a few months ago after Sandy people were falling over each other helping each other but now that time has past its back to the "me me me" attitude. And no I am NOT comparing this to Sandy but just the attitudes of people. It really is a shame.

And for everyone arguing that this older woman may have needed the spot bc of XYZ illness then she should get a handicap tag for her car.

Common courtesy is seriously lacking in this world. It's disgusting.

Whole Foods, Trader Joes/Old Navy in Lake Grove, the outlets, are just some of the stores I have seen pregnant parking, they do also have Senior Citizen Parking.

I don't think she is getting a 'pass', I just think there a lots of aholes in the world. She had a quick comeback. What are we gonna do, find her and tell her how wrong she was? or share a laugh, because so many pregnant people with a sense of humor have found her comeback funny..rude or not.

Because that comraderie is now a distant memory to most, and the selfish, entitled attitudes are back. I really have to say that most people just suck, plain and simple.
