I know the family. The Mom and I are friends. I heard about this this morning and OMG I can't imagine what they are going through. OMG my heart is breaking for them.

I just sent an email to Long Island Golden Retreiver Rescue urging them to step in and take the dog from the shelter. I'm very afraid for this dog.

I heard about this on the news today at work and it just broke my heart! I hope someone takes the dog I mean the dog did not know he was going to kill her he was playing with her.i think the mother should have been outside with her or her brother should have came out earlier and stayed with his sister i am not blaming the brother because no one knew this was going to happen but i would rather have my oldest keeping on their sibling and not go inside till they are both inside together.my prayers are with the family!

Don't they take all animals that kill (either accidently or intentionally) to shelters?

I don't think so....
I think they remove dogs only if they are a danger to others...
this dog clearly isn't a danger...

What a tragic accident. I feel for the family for losing their little girl. I also feel for the dog...this was just an unfortunate "accident"

hey Ro, your post reminded me of something...my Dh cousin's neighbor had a pool and the mom send her two boys out to play and the older child was to watch the younger child...and sad to say he drowned in the pool...and the older child had a really tough time dealing with the guilty and felt his brothers death was his fault...this was a big eye opener for all the parents, a child need to be a child and not have the resposiblity of raising a child...

This is very sad. She was a beautiful little girl. I am a big animal lover and this poor dog didnt mean it now she is in a shelter. I hope someone rescues the dog.

I know many parents who leave their 5, 6, plus in age child alone for 10 minutes. Its not hours, its just about 10 minutes. You dont realize how fast 10 minutes can go by, so I dont blame the mother brother or the dog. It truly was an accident. Most dogs play tug of war. I feel sorry for both the family and the dog. I honestly have to say if I had a 6 yr old playing in my front yard with the dog, I would not feel like she was in any danger for 10 minutes, now if there was a pool in the yard yes but just playing in the front with the dog, in a fenced yard, I honestly have to say I wouldnt think it was a bad thing.
