DH and I are trying to plan for the "future". I think that it would be immpossible to stay home because my income make some impact at the moment. If we have another kid though, my salary would be going all to daycare and I would really like to be home.

I ask just to get an idea if it's possible. We have a home and need to maintain that. Thanks in advance for the information:)

We are in the 90-120K range but we are not in NY anymore and I work PT 2 days a week and bring home an additional 35K.
I will say that in a lot of ways our cost of living in CO is fairly similar to NY. Somethings are cheaper but some are more expensive. The only realy huge difference is taxes which probably makes our mortgage half of what some would pay for our size house in NY.
It's hard to make it on one income but it can be done.
You have to practice, set a budget and stick to it.

I would say DH needs to make a 100+. DH makes a little less then that and I don't make a lot at all. So if he went up to 100+ I could stay home.

ETA Does that even make senseChat Icon

That makes a great deal of sense. My DH (to disclose) could make $80K with two jobs.... I think that it could work but it would be very tight.

DH is above 120 and I have been staying home and its been a bit tight b/c we have other expenses we didnt realize, my father just got married $$$$, we are in an out of state wedding party in may mucho$$$$$$, we have other weddings/anniversary parties all by june AND then there is her Christening in April which is not cheap our family is so big the immediate family with only 10 friends and not extended family is over 100 peopleChat Icon . I decided to work ( started yesterday this week working 1 day) 1 or 2 days a week only 4 hours just so that I have my own spending money. Its not easy. I love being home too but its good to get out a bit too.

If my dh made what we did combined, I could stay home. We make way under $100,000 combined but we have a low mortgage so that is the only way we are able to make it!

My DH makes approx $90k (with overtime salary) and I am a SAHM. He works long hours but he wants me to be home with ds. Childcare was impossible - I was making around $40k (pre-tax) and 95% went to expenses like work clothes, appearance, transportation costs (LIRR & Metro card), parking, lunches at work - nothing fancy but I worked in a corporate office where one had to keep up appearances and such.

We have cut back on a lot of things and it is rough some months when we have birthday celebrations, weddings, etc, but we have managed for a year now and I think things will be ok.

We are not thinking about baby #2 right now - just trying to get settled in our new home and get comfortable with our new expenses.

Childcare - good childcare - is mucho dinero and if you're not making enough to significantly cover that + your work expenses to me it's just not worth it to me.
