Random question....
Do you have a close relationship with your mom? If not. Why not?
Just wondering because I often find myself feeling guilty because Im not that close with my mother- for numerous reasons. One for the totally domesticated lifestyle she leads- 2nd because she lives far away from me- its hard for me to visit her all the time. (And she NEVER bothers to visit me, because its "too long of a drive")
Just wondering if anyone else feels the way i do...

I am very close with my mom. I started getting closer with her when my dad died 10 years ago (I was a total daddy's girl). Also with my wedding we got closer. Now that I am a mother, we are very close. She has always been there for me.
Don't get me wrong- sometimes she drives me nuts. And she doesn't always visit us either because we live in the city and she is otu on LI. When my sister moved back to the city right when I had the baby, she started coming over more. But still- she doesn't like to travel to the city much.
But she is so kind and loving and has always been so wonderful to me and DH. She also always helps out with the baby whenever I needed her. We talk frequently- so for all those reasons, I am close to my mom.

I am very close to my mom. I am an only child and was always close to both of my parents. We talk every day- more than once a day sometimes, especially since the move- it has been difficult on us both- my dad too. We got even closer during the wedding planning.
Do we bicker? argue? yes, but it lasts like 5 minutes! I get mad at some things that she does, and the other way too- but it's because we are so much alike.

My mom and I are extremely close. We talk about everything and talk on the phone at least 3-4 times per day. She knows all my secret. We cannot do without each other for a second.

I am not close to my mom at all. I constantly find myself very jealous of other girls and their mothers. My wedding planning actually brought us closer and I thought we had become friends. But I realized now that the wedding is over, she doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. I have started to come to terms with the fact that she will never be the kind of mom I wanted and there is nothing I can do to force her to be that kind of mom.

I am very close with my mom! We are best of friends. We live only 2 miles away from each other & see each other practically everyday. I can not imagine having any other relationship with her. Many of her friends tell her how lucky she is to have not only a daughter but a friend.
Of course we have our moments when we fight but who doesn't!

To all the ladies who aren't close with their moms, do your best to become close. i realize everyone's situation is different but you only get one mother and one time to be with her. time is too short.
my mom was my best friend. i lost her 5 years ago to breast cancer. so trust me...savor the relationship you have with your mom. It's precious.

This is my situation exactly. What pains me more though is that she's continuing the legacy with my daughter and has absolutely NOTHING to do with her. She sees her for, at most, an hour, maybe once a month. My MIL who lives in Israel has spent more time with her, and shows much more of a genuine interest in her life and development. It depresses me to no end, and I think it's just finally starting to dawn on me that she will never be the kind of mother that I want. It's funny this was posted today because I was awake in bed last night, tossing and turning for almost 2 hours, thinking about all of this, and finally coming to the epiphany that we will never be close, and that I'll be better off if I just accept who she is rather than expect her to fit into a mold she'll never be.

I am very close with my mom - I feel like sometimes I am very overprotective of her - mostly because my dad died when we were young and I always had this fear that she would die if I wasn't near her...silly I know
I can go to her with anything - although sometimes I get huffy because she has a very old school Italian mentality on certain things that I don't agree with...but all in all we are close...I don't think I could move far away from her...I would feel lost...

I'm semi-close with my Mom - she lives 500 miles away, so we don't get to see one another very often, but we talk weekly, but we do have opposite views, but I can confide in her when questions/issues arise.

Ditto... We talk every day, ALL day. I live around the corner from her and work one block up from her office... We go to lunch together every work day.

I am very close with my mom. Actually, all of the women on my mom's side of the family are very close, we were close with my grandmother and my cousins, sister and I are more like sisters in general.
I know it is different with men, but my DH has a very strained relationship with his mother and it is hard for me to see. I have to bite my tongue a lot because I don't understand it and it isn't my place to say anything.

I have seen my mother once in the last 17 years...she was an alcoholic and left my dad and I went I was 14.
She lives on LI with her husband...while I live everyday with no parents...my dad passed 6 years ago....I am her only natural child!

I'm not very close with my mom at all. We've always had a strained relationship that unfortunately caused me a lot of emotional damage. The bad thing is that I see a lot of her in myself. Its one of the major reasons why I dont want to have children, and why I think my DH is a patient man for being with me.
