Raised red rash? Help! Fixed with pic on bottom....UPDATED on BOTTOM

Cailen has been off and irritable all day, and drooling insanely. I was worried that he may have coxsacie, but he had no fever, and is drinking. He just has no interest in eating.

I gave him a bath this morning. We went trick or treating (he didn't eat anything)

He finally was hungry enough to eat dinner tonight (some avocado) - he got it all over his shirt. When I took his shirt off, I saw this rash on his arm...

I called the dr. on call - he didn't seem too concerned - but now I went to change his diaper and the same rash is all over his bottom - what is this???? Chat Icon

Re: Raised red rash? Help!

did he recently have a fever? I know Jack once broke out in a rash the day after he had a high fever. He also gets bad diaper rash when he's cutting a tooth. Could that be it? I can't see the pic, but Chat Icon to Cailen

I would definetely see if the dr. is in tomorrow. That doesnt look like a rash just from teething and it is a large area, not pin-pricks, KWIM?

ETA: did he eat anything different? It looks more like an allergic reaction to something.

that is definatly hives - my son got those one day - they can range from small sizes to really large. They will go away and reappear somewhere else. We just gave my son benadryl per my Dr. and they eventually went away - it did take a few days. My Dr. said 99% of the time you never figure out why they got them. Unless you gave them a new food or use new detergent or change something in their lifestyle you will never really know what caused them.

Re: Raised red rash? Help! Fixed with pic on bottom....

Definately looks like Fifth's Disease. First my Mom and I got it and then Ava did. We didn't have the rash, just low fever and joint and muscle pain.

Ava had that rash on arms and some on her cheeks. It lasted about a week.

From what the Doctor told me, once they have the rash, they are no longer contagious, but double check. I had it when I was pg, and it was very scary.

Good Luck!

Re: Raised red rash? Help! Fixed with pic on bottom....UPDATED on BOTTOM

Thanks for the responses ladies - I did the walk-in this morning at my ped....

Turns out he has a blister on his tongue which could be coxsacie even though he had no fever, so they think its hives from something viral. They do vary and change all over his body - weird!!!

He actually is less cranky today and is even eating a bagel - thank God - he was starving... Chat Icon

Guess no Halloween party today Chat Icon But we will still have fun. He is actually very happy and active today, so it looks like lots of playing and Jack's Big Music show!!! Chat Icon

Liza, I just went through this with Lance. Allergies can also cause blisters in your mouth. They kept telling me he had coxsacie.

It's probably is just a virus. But, just to be safe, I would ask for full allergy testing.

Glad he is feeling better! Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is the 1st time he had this - how often did Lance get this where you started getting concerned? What is he allergic to?

Lance had "coxsacie" three times since April. He never had and other virus symptoms though. So finally they allergy tested him, and he ended up being allergic to soy and banana.
