Questions to ask when looking into daycare for a newborn.

I am starting my daycare search for my newborn (expecting in June), and I'm wondering if you can share with me some good questions to ask as we begin our search.

Also, if you have any recommendations for places in Lynbrook (ideally), Rockville Centre, Malverne, West Hempstead, Garden City, Franklin Square areas that would also be great. Thanks!

How many infants do you have in a room? (max is 8 in NYS)

What are the ratios in your classrooms (infants is 4:1)

Is everyone CPR cert?

What kind of training does your staff receive?

How do bottles need to be prepared?

What do I need to bring?

Do you have an open door policy?

What is your staff turnover?

Are infants kept on their own schedule (very important that they are)

What is the age group in an infant class? (they can go up to 18 months)

How do you let the parents know what happened during the day? (feeding times, naps, BM's etc.)

What are your hours of operation?

What days do you close?

Do you close for snow? How are the parents notified?

What are your illness policies?

Oh and once you narrow down your choices you can look here to see if the center has any violations.

Just but make sure the fire crib is easily accessible and free to move if necessary. I went ape when i visited one daycare who had the fire crib in a closet in the room with lots of old toys in it. HELLO!?!? in case of an emergency i want them out ASAP not waiting for you guys to pull it out and clean it up before dumping the babies in it. Chat Icon I actually watched a few drillls at my daycare and i see they made improvements on their fire crib usage.

That's a violation!! If their rep caught it they would be written up. It has to be near an exit and empty at all times.

Thanks ladies!! Those questions really help! Please keep them coming and any recommendations (or places in those areas to stay away from) would be so greatly appreciated!
