Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

I am curious to know if your baby's schedule in utero was the same once they were born.

The reason I ask is Chat Icon seems very active at night. I wonder if he is going to be up all night once he is born Chat Icon

Do you remember with your baby?

TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

In theory babies are nocturnal when they are born b/c we are up during the day and our movements rock them to sleep....

When I was pregnant with Caden I remember thinking how he slept more at night and was up for most of the day. So I thought that he was going to not have that nighttime "witching" hour..Sadly it wasnt the case...he popped out and had his days and nights mixed up just like the rest of the little stinkers..Chat Icon

Kristina was ALWAYS up at night when I was PG.... but I remembered all the night/day mixups with the new moms here, and I made sure that at the hospital I started her with the soft lights at night, and the bright lights and lots of noise during the day....

She adjusted very well, and started sleeping through the night right around 7 weeks old!

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

DD NEVER stopped moving when I was PG with her. So much so that I asked my obgyn what I was going to be in for once she was born. Even when I was walking around a mall she would still be kicking me hard.

when she was born she was a great sleeper. She would eat at 11pm, 2am and 7 am and sleep in between until she was 4 weeks old, she's slept through the night since then.

I don't think their activity in the womb gives any inclination as to their sleep/wake schedule once born.

Lucas was always very calm at night in utero - when he was born he work often at night and I was Chat Icon but now he's a solid sleeper - so that was all worked out.

I would wake at 5am every morning for work and he would start moving around as well...I really do feel that it had an effect because to this day he is an early riser...but the good news is that over the last year he has stretched it out so he wakes later.

I remember him always waking up around 2am in utero. But when I was PG, I worked until 1am. So maybe that had something to do with it. Chat Icon Anyway, he started sleeping through the night around 2 months continuously. His bedtime was 10pm.

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

they're more *active* at night b/c you're not...

during the day, you're walking around and it usually rocks them to sleep.

DS used to do cartwheels at night when I was pregnant and he was an EXCELLENT baby once he was born.. (slept through the night VERY VERY early...can't remember exactly when, it's been 8 years...I'd have to look at his baby book, but I remember how shocked everyone was that he was sleeping through the night)

NOW... he's a terror Chat Icon

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

DS never moved at night, I think in the all the time I felt movement, I only felt maybe 2-3 kicks here or there during the night.

The day we brought DS home from the hospital (3 days old) he slept for 5 hours straight that night. I can now, 6 months later, count on 1 hand the number of times he has woken up more than 1x in a night. He never had his days & nights mixed up, I actually had more of an issue, still do, tryign to get him to nap during the day vs going to bed at night.

I totally believe he developed his "schedule" in the womb.

hmmm...yes! When he was active, he was all over the place. But, he also had his quiet restful periods in utero. I know it sounds crazy, but he was the same once he was born! And he was born on a schedule and he was the same way in utero. Every single day at the same times he would be active.

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

I think to some extent, yes. When I was pregnant I used to feel her moving around 5:30 every morning - her kicking would wake me up. Now I hear her in the mornings moving around in her crib about that time every day. Other than that, I don't really notice/remember any similarities.

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

DD was very active around 4-5 am when I was pregnant and it continued for the first few weeks after she was born. Her most wide awake time of the day was at 4am for about 3 weeks until she got day/night figured out.

It was actually a very nice time for me. (As tired as I was) It was quiet, calm and peaceful and this beautiful little girl would be staring at me wide eyed as I sang softly to her. It was very much a bonding time for us. There were sometimes she was so active we even did tummy time.

After a few weeks I toned it down and kept the lights dim to help reset her clock and it worked very quickly.

Nope. They say that you rock the baby during the day because you are constantly moving around. DD was very active at night(in utero) and slept through the night at 6 weeks.

Re: Question for new Moms (or anyone who will remember)

DS was every active during the night when I was PG but he has been pretty good sleeper so far. He woke every 3 hours till 5 weeks to eat, and now I get a 6 hr stretch and then a 3 hr stretch, but he always goes right back down after his night feedings.

Both my babies had similar habits in utero and once born.

Both were pretty calm at night in utero. Hannah was sleeping through the night by 5 weeks and Jack only woke up twice the last 2 nights (and slept in his crib). Fingers crossed he's a great sleeper like his sisterChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
