question about lost cell phones and insurance

if your phone is lost and you were carrying insurance on it, is there any reason you would have to pay for a replacement?

I don't know the full details as this is my baby sister relaying info, but it sounded weird to me.

any help would be appreciated. I just feel like something is missing from this puzzle.Chat Icon

Re: question about lost cell phones and insurance

Most of the insurance plans have a deductible that you have to pay to replace the phone. The deductible is usually $50 but can be more depending on the phone you had.

My friend flushed her phone and got a replacement. She just had to pay for the deductible and her parents plumber. Chat Icon

Deductible only -- and then they usually ship it to you via next day or 2nd day air.

The insurance is almost always thru a 3rd party like Assurion, and that's why you have to get the phone in the mail and pay the deductible to them vs to your phone carrier directly.

You should not have to pay for the replacement of the phone, that defeats the point of having the insurance.

At this point I'm such a pro at it, I've had to do claims on at least 5 phones in my lifetime. Chat Icon

deductible can be 50 or even 80 depending on the type of phone you have. hopefully the phone is worth more than the deductible or it's not even worth going through insurance.

NEVER say you had a phone stolen... then you need a police report!! UGH!!!

for me, if you do more than 2 in a 12 month period... insurance drops you. my insurance dropped me.

Re: question about lost cell phones and insurance

i had insurance on one of my phones years ago and i had to pay $35.00 fee. so there is usually some sort of deductible or payment in addition to the monthly insurance you pay on the phone.
