Question about CIO at nap time

Today was day 1 of CIO at nap time. So far, he's doing great! He went down for his nap this morning (9am) after less than 10 mins of crying. He was in his crib for 1hr and slept for about 45mins.

For nap 2 (12noon), he only cried for 5 mins and then was out. Again, he was in his crib for about an hour and slept about 45 mins.

He needs longer naps. Is this just part of CIO and getting him adjusted to napping in his crib (before, he would nap in his boppy on the couch)? He wakes up crying which is a sure sign that he's not ready to wake up but he cannot be soothed back to sleep and he becomes more hysterical than when he is first put down, so I take him out. Should I let him cry?

FYI - he's 5mo.

Re: Question about CIO at nap time

My DD is also 5 mos.

If she wakes up after less than an hour, I usually leave her in her crib for 30 minutes.

She will babble/suck her fingers/fuss a little and then cry, but 9 out of 10 times, she will go back to sleep for another hour or so.

At that age, they should be napping about 3-4 hours a day.

I know that 2 or 3 quick 30-45 minute naps are not enough for her. She is cranky and needs more, so yes, I let her CIO if she wakes after only 30 minutes.

Re: Question about CIO at nap time

he probably needs time to adjust to the crib, id give him a week, after that, I can almost guarentee you he will take longer naps.. if not, I would let him CIO 15m after he wakes up. But not too long just give him a chance to sel soothe, by that point he should be able to

Re: Question about CIO at nap time

I had the same issue when we started about a month ago. DS was doing 30 minutes. Now he is up to an hour. He has on occasion done 2-2.5 hours. Im hoping he progresses up to that. When he was in his swing he was doing at least 2 hours

ETA: after te first week or 2 when he would wake after 30 min, Id let him whine and sometimes he would go back to sleep. If he did that all out cry I would go in.
