Q ABOUT GETTING A SECOND OPINION

I have a cardiologist I go to(and I like him), but I would like to get a 2nd opinion since I haven't been feeling so well.
So I called and made an appt with a new dr they asked for my records. But I'd rather they didn't have my records and do their own tests and give me their diagnosis without comparing it to my regular dr's results. In case I am not satisfied with this new doc (who is supposed to be the top) than I guess I would go back to my regular dr.
So do I just go to a new dr and tell him I AM LOOKING FOR A 2ND OPINION and tell them what heart condition I have and what tests I've had done without showing them the actual records ?
Or do I have to give them the records?Chat Icon I am confused.
How does this work? I've never had a second opinion before.
Thanks in advance

I would let them know it is for a second opinion .... as for the records I see what your saying but how long have you been going to this doc for? is it a long history?

if they want the records, then they need them. Discuss with the Dr your concerns, and let them know (which they usually do anyway) that you want their own tests run, etc.

I have gone for 2nd opinions, and even switched Dr's since I didn't like the one I was seeing, and they ALWAYS run their own tests. They have a job to do and they want to do that job, therefore they need to feel sure about your test results as well. Relying on tests they did not administer, does not give them 100% confidence in a diagnosis.

almost 2 yrs. It's a cardiologist .I just feel so awkward telling my regular dr that I need a 2nd opinion and that I need my records. He is very good and has done so many tests, but I don't feel well and second opinion wouldn't hurt. Plus would like to hear what the other dr has to say.

Re: Q ABOUT GETTING A SECOND OPINION

We all have to advocate for ourselves. Go get your second op and don't feel bad about it.

Get all of your records to the new doc and he/she will do their own tests too.

If you feel something isn't right, it probably isn't. Go with our gut.

I hope you feel better.

I just changed my regular drs appt to earlier date and told them I 'll need to pick up my records while there and I made another appt for 2nd opinion with a new dr for following week.

Re: Q ABOUT GETTING A SECOND OPINION

i work for a specialist and when dealing with something like your cardiovascular system its encouraged to get a 2nd opinion when you aren't 100%.. alot of our doctors help and send people along to more specialized people in the area you are having the problem (a specialty in a specialty).. a good dr wont' get offended you are looking to get a 2nd opinion
