My boss had $14,000 worth of fraud to his Sprint account.
He cancelled sprint a few months later and they are making him pay the termination charge (on 5 phones) because he waited so long--it's like he was "OK" with the fraud lol

They are updated once ev ery 30 days. You can get a service like PrivacyGuard-I think it is $30 for the year?

I check my credit report once a year and get it for free.
Is that enough though, or should be checking it every few months. I'm pretty anal when it comes to my credit. I have a CC that gives me my score each month and i FREAK if it goes down a few points.

At LEAST once a year but ideally twice a year b/c damage can be quickly done.

I personally have always been leary of getting a free credit report...so I just pay to make sure it is a reputable site I am putting my info into.
www.myfico.com is a good one for all three credit bureaus
www.equifax.com is another great one

another credit question... Should you be concerned with'closed' accounts? I have had so many credit cards in the past... I see a lot of chase cards that COULD have been mine, but they're marked as closed.

You can run a credit report for free from all three of the major credit bureaus once a year. I believe we went to annualcreditreport.com to do this. You should spread it out, and check every few months.

Well...I have a lot of closed accounts too. I always request a letter when I close an account, that states, "closed at consumer's request" and I keep that letter. That closed acct will show on yoru report for 7 years I think.
I know what you are saying about not being sure if they were yours...the main thing is they are closed, the say "account closed" and you monitor from this point on to make sure nothing new that you DIDN't open shows up.

I'm just confused as to how to differentiate btwn the people checking your credit reports. A lot are the CC companies that are constantly sending me offers...

When you run your credit report and you should run it from ALL three main credit bureaus (Equifax, Transunion and Experian), it will show inquiriies on your credit.
You really need to run all three.

I have the one product from equifax where they monitor me daily. They allow me to choose for a notification by email if my account balance goes above the previous month's amount by a certain amount or % I choose. It's a good feature.
The other feature you mention where they lock your credit report sounds good. I think I might get that, too. How does it work when you want to allow a certain creditor to pull a report on you?

How does it work when you want to allow a certain creditor to pull a report on you?
You can unlock for a specific time period when you know you are applying for credit. Or you can request a specific pin for a specific company to use so you don't have to unlock, they can use their special pin # to get your report.
I am glad to hear this feature is good (notification of when balance goes up). I ordered this too!! So I am glad to hear it works.

This is the service that allows you to pull your credit report for free once a year from each of the credit bureau's. I do this once every few months for one different company.
Thankfully - nothing is amiss.
