Private speech therapist?

I think my son may have a delay with speaking/communicating. He was turned down for EI, but I'd like to look into working with someone privately to get him some help. Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably for someone in Nassau?

Thanks so much.

How old is your son? From what I understand they generally dont start speech therapy until they turn 2.

Thats not true. Depending on the needs of the child speech therapy can be started from birth. My friend is a NICU speech pathologist.

I would look into your insurance. Sometimes your insurance pays for a certain number of services and u don't need to qualify based on Early intervention.

Very true! I'm an SLP and your insurance may cover some sessions. Also, children can qualify as early as birth, if they are showing delays at a level that is a disability. Kidz Therapy is a good recommendation and a good agency, IMO. You *may* be able to get ahold of the county list of EI providers and contact them directly about private therapy. Also, you can try the universities, as they have clinics. Personally, I recommend Hofstra.

I didn't even think to recommed Universities... Molloy College has a speech clinic there, program is small which is nice. Otherwise contact Kidz Therapy, I did my SLP observations there and had a wonderful experience.
