Potty Training - pooping in underwear how long will(could) this last?

Son is 3, 100% potty trained with #1 and we are on day 5.

My issue right now is that he will not poo on the potty due to fear. He has pulled down his pants poo'd in other places but will now poo in his underwear. The good thing is that he runs quickly after doing it to the bathroom and he pulls down his underwear and actually try to flick it in the potty just to say he poo poo'd in the potty so I know he does want to do it. Today we went to the park and I told him in the car to tell me when he has to potty. I really thought he would but he didn't and had a #2 accident. I had to change him in the car. I'm trying to do this cold turkey (no pull ups) because I'm thinking he will learn quicker this way. No?

For those that have experienced this..

How long will this last (pooping in underwear)? I'm constantly telling him next time poo poo on the potty or tell mamma I will help you, I try to stay on top of him with #2 but I'm always missing it. He's so sneaky with trying to flick it in the potty too like I wouldn't notice. I actually get a big chuckle out of this.

My husband suggested no underwear while home but I think he'll just poo anywhere on the floor so that wont help.

Any other advice? He starts preschool in Sept. and I'm hoping he will be 100% potty trained with #2.

I went through the same thing. DS pooped in his underwear at the zoo, at the park, etc... I would say that it was no more then 2 weeks before he figured out that it was pretty gross to poop in his underwear. Once he started going on the potty there were no more accidents. I didn't even really use PullUps with DS.

We did no underwear and that seemed to work. We are on day 4 and he has gone both poo and pee in the potty. The thing that helped DS was to get him a step stool so he could feel like his feet were on the floor for leverage.

ETA: Two months ago we tried and DS pooped in his underwear. He was screaming when we put him on the potty. I knew he was not ready so I laid off again. This time it was completely different. He was fine with the potty. Do you have any friends with kids that are poop potty trained? If they and their parents are ok with it, perhaps schedule a play date so DS can see another kid do it. I think this played an enormous role for DS to gain confidence that the potty was ok.

I could have written this word for word (minus the part about him pooping on the potty now lol)

We tried two months ago and it was torture. He was kicking, screaming, you name it. This time around is so much better. But, he still won't poop on the potty. I'm hoping to catch him one time when he has to go so that the first time is down, but I keep missing it. Strange thing is he did poop on the potty a few months ago.

I've heard this could last a fairly long time. I'm really hoping it doesn't!

We are at 2 wks in underpants. Pee, great. Poop - inconsistent. I have gotten him on the potty to do poop 3 times in the past 2 wks. He has been holding and going every other day - and had a couple of accidents (when home with DH) in underpants.

I'm hoping with get him "regular" again. He'll skip a day and then I'm waiting all day for "the bomb" Chat Icon

He is 29 months. He has def. improved with everything else over the 2 wks - peeing is at 100% and he wakes up from naps and in the morning dry. The first wkend we started he was soaking his sheets by morning. So last to conquer is poo!
