Pond people! Baby fish question

Our fish had fish!!!

We (meaning my grandfather and I) put 6 fish in the lower pond in 4 in the upper pond. They all grew to over 6 inches long.

Yesterday, I'm looking in the upper pond and notice a little gold fish darting back and forth. Then i notice a few black fish. We're talking less than an inch long. So I call him outside and we spot 6 little fish. We have no idea where they came from but this was very exciting for us.

So, has anyone's fish had babies and if so, what do you do with them?

Re: Pond people! Baby fish question

My sister has koi and goldfish in her pond and for three years in a row now they have had babies (this year there are two sets of babies). As long as you pond is at least three feet deep, you can leave them out all winter. They do survive. If you pond is more shallow than three feet, you will need to bring them in over the winter and put them in a tank.

Thank you! This is the first time they had babies, so we weren't expecting it! Again, thank you!

Yeah, my sister has a big pond and the fish didn't have babies the first two years in the pond - then there were two babies the third year, two the fourth and this year there were two sets of three....I told her that pretty soon the pond is going to be overcrowded and she's going to have to start selling them.Chat Icon
