POLL: Do you lease or buy your vehicles?

Just out of curiosity, do you lease or buy your vehicles?

Personally, I love the idea of leasing. We lease for only two years at a clip, and we get to turn the car in for a brand new one when the term is up. We have two cars that are "ours" at our house, but we will always lease a third.

What do you guys do?

i don't need a new car every couple of years- it's not something that's worth 'investing' in for us.

mine will always be leased- I get bored very easliy- and even though I will most likely get a newer version of the SUV I have now- I want to be able to easily get rid of it in 3 years and get one will all the new bells and whistles

DH bought a pathfinder in 2003- and now we are trying to sell it and it sucks

he normally buys his cars- we just bought a 2006 Saleen Mustang that he plans on keeping forever- personally I give him 2 years before he wants a new one- but he would argue that- we had a 2005 that he swore he would keep for ever- but it got traded in for an upgrade in less then 2 years- luckily is more then held it's value

Have always bought - and against popular thought I buy new. I like the idea of knowing how the car is maintained from the moment I buy it and I keep my cars for a loooooonnnng time, plus I do a lot of driving.
My first car I had for four years (used)
My second car I had for 13 years and 200,000 miles
I now have a truck for 4 years and almost 100,000 miles.

I lease or have a dealer demo through DH's dealership. No need to buy here

Always buy new.

Well my last 2 cars were bought new.

My first car was used.

Always buy new, and usually buy cash. DH did a payment plan with his but I bought mine cash. When I trade it in I'll buy a new one cash (not rich at all; I buy civics!).

We just financed my first new car. I always had family leftovers or bought cars at the end of a lease. Leasing isnt my thing. Financing is hard because I come from a family that always paid for cars in cash - completely.

I have leased 2 cars and I have owned 2. I own right now and I don't think I would go back to leasing.

One great thing about leasing is that usually you can afford a more expensive car than if you bought it out right. Overall, I don't think leasing is bad, but not for me anymore. It's kinda of like renting a car for a couple years and having nothing to show for it when you turn it in.

As I get older my views on cars has dramatically changed. I always had to have a really nice, sporty car. Now I realize that a big payment is a silly way to spend money even if you can afford it. It's just a car. I'd rather spend money on other things.

Buy. Can't imagine spending all that money on a car, then giving it back to the dealer and starting all over again. I keep good care of my cars, and I make modifications to them. (nothing drastic like air suspension, or lamborghini doors, but enough to cost a lot in fees if I leased.)

we just got our first "adult" car a year ago when we moved out of Manhattan. We still live in an urban area-- so we barely use the car and will be here for no more than 5 years-- therefore we lease.

When we move to a house, I think we would lease a car like we have now-- something more economical and then buy a certified pre-owned luxury car like a BMW.

I leased one car in the past. In retrospect, for my personal situation, it was a mistake. We plan on never leasing a car again, it just doesn't pay given our situation and we don't desire or need a new car every few years.

We buy all of our cars now and pay cash for them.

My first car was leased because it seemed to make sense at the time. When it was time for me to get another car, we got a certified pre-owned Civic. I have no plans to lease again for 3 reasons- I'm not into cars and want something reliable, I'd always end up over the mileage because of my long commute, and I park on the street in the South Bronx, so I don't want to worry about every little ding.

Both

Currently we own our Excursion and lease our Jeep. DH puts way too many miles on his vehicles to buy.

We own ours. But, if I was still doing RE, I'd lease mine. Nice write-off.
