please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
christmas eve is big in my family and christmas day is big in DH's family. i went and bought several outfits over a month ago for DS to wear on christmas and christmas eve. i picked my favorite for eve and DH picked his favorite for christmas day. i'm returning the rest.
someone very close to DH called me today to say she bought DS 2 christmas outfits that she'll give him a few days before christmas. she wasn't even going to tell me about it--it was going to be a surprise i think. i told her "thank you so much, but i already bought some over a month ago." she got upset and told me that i should give other people a chance to buy him stuff.  i told her even my mother wasn't allowed to pick out his outfit! i told her he can always use new clothes, but the christmas outfits were special for me to pick out with DH.
am i wrong for wanting to pick out my son's first christmas outfit? i was so excited when i bought them and can't wait to see him in them. i would never DREAM of buying someone else's child's first christmas outfit. and not only that, they're the wrong size. DS will be in 3-6, not 6-9 which is what the person bought. so if i had waited to get it from her a few days before christmas, it wouldn't fit anyway.
i don't think i'm wrong. i thanked her profusely and told her how much i appreciated the thought, but that it was important to me to buy this for him. am i crazy? i'm not mad about it at all, but more upset that she's upset with me for doing something that all mothers do. i really don't think i am.

I don't think you are wrong at all. I think the person meant well, but it's his first Christmas. This will be Joey's first Christmas also, and I loved buying his Christmas Eve and Christmas outfits. I don't think that means you are not allowing people to buy him stuff- Joey has so many cute outfits that people buy him- but the holiday outfits are for me to buy!

Not wrong and the person should have asked you. It is "expected" that moms buy outfits for photos and the actual Holidays.
NOBODY waits "hoping" that someone will buy an outfit.
If someone wants to buy you something like that, they need to let you know AND make sure you like it too.

You're not wrong at all. Very sweet of this person to want to do something like that but really not her place unless she coordinated with you from the start in my opinion.
I don't really get why people want to buy other people's children holiday clothing. I think that buying an outfit is very nice but to assume that they can take the responsibility of dressing another person's child is strange to me.
Needless to say...no one picks out or purchases my son's holiday/event clothing but me. Fortunately everyone in our family knows that. But then again...none of us ever buy anyone else's holiday clothing...we don't even suggest it.

no you are not wrong! if they want to purchase the outfit, they should give you money for it!
BIL did that to me Josh's first easter. I put it on Josh, took pic, then took it off of him.
The amount of fun they have picking out outfit for your kid is the same amount of fun they are stealing from you when they do it.

I agree with you 100%....My MIL wanted to buy my DS's first Christmas outfit and I politely declined and made sure she knew that DH and I would be buying him all his holiday outfits from here on out...To me it is a very personal, special thing to dress your DC the way you would like them dressed, Lets be honest, theres only a limited amount of time us parents can get away with it

I'm super picky with Rylans clothes so only I get to buy holiday outfits

I don't think you are wrong, either.
For my DD's first christmas last year, my MIL bought her eve outfit and my mom bought her day outfit. I appreciated it b/c I didn't have the chance to get her one myself.
But this year, I already told my mom that I'm buying DD her christmas day dress. we already have a cute dress for her to wear on christmas eve.
I told DH to tell his mom too. WE'll see how that goes.

My mom bought DD an Easter dress one year without asking. I was so annoyed. It was so ugly I didn't use it anyway.

My mom actually got her a christmas dress when I first found out I was pregnant. I do like the idea of picking my own dress so i'll put her in the gift one when I see my mom and get one for christmas eve.

If holiday outfits weren't such a big deal to us Mom's you wouldn't see 5 million posts asking other Mom's if we like what we picked
