Re: please share your 5 yr olds sleep habits..

My son is 4, closes enough, right?

Very hard, because it varies...

With nap: he's up later, will sometimes not go to bed until 10 p.m.

No nap: He's out cold by 8:30 p.m.

You think it would be obvious to skip the nap, but when we do, he is falling asleep in his dinner, so there are days he does need that nap or else between 4 and 8 p.m. he's just unbearable. Chat Icon

Now that its summer, he's sleeping in until 9 most mornings. During the school year, I get him up at 8 a.m.

I would say he averages 10-11 hours a night, plus nap on some days.

Re: please share your 5 yr olds sleep habits..

Noah just turned 5 on Friday!!!

His sleep habits are probably atypical because I work LATE.

He sleeps by 9:30-10 and is usually up around 7-7:30. He still USUALLY takes a nap around noon for an hour to an hour and a half. If he doesn't nap - he may fall asleep on his own around 5 and that moves our whole schedule off. So we try to avoid that! He also gets EXTREMELY cranky without enough sleep.

I actually hear him coming down the stairs now!

DS is 5 1/2 and I would say his schedule drastically changed when he was 5 and is still constantly evolving.

Right now the normal schedule is he goes down about 8:3O and sleeps 7:30-8. Sometimes he will sleep later.

If he goes to be later, he'll sleep in.

If he is really wrecked he'll nap when I force him to (literally lay in bed and he'll cry that he is not tired until he falls asleep), then he'll sleep for 2-3 hours and emerge a new child.

But generally no nap.

My son will be 5 in a few weeks. He stopped napping COMPLETELY before he was 2 Chat Icon

He goes to bed by 8:00 (the latest 8:30) and is up around 7:30am.
