Please say a prayer for my son, his friend passed away- NEW update
I am numb as I'm typing this
my 21 yr old son's dear friend passed away last night, they lived together. Brian came home while the ambulance was still there. He is beside himself.
Please say a prayer tonight.
RIP Ed, you were a great guy 
update LONG: Sorry I didn't give much info at first but things have been crazy. Ed was 59 and a disabled veteran. He & my son met through my son's girlfriend who grew up with Ed's daughter. Ed was estranged from his ex-wife & kids, none of them ever called or came over. Brian, my son started helping Ed out around his house couple of years ago( he lives 6 houses away from Brian's girlfriend) Eventually about 1.5 years ago Ed asked Brian to move in with him. Ed couldn't drive & needed a lot of daily help. We thought it was a little bit of a weird situation but we realized Brian wanted to be close to his girlfriend and all of his friends in our old town. Plus his job was much closer to and gas prices were getting higher.
So Brian payed Ed a little bit of rent and he did all of the food shopping, laundry & took Ed to all of his doctors appointments plus helped Ed by keeping him company. Ed was depressed & told Brian more than once he would have given up if he didn't have Brian to help him. Thanksgiving Ed came to our house because nobody in his family offered him a place to go.
Holidays were hard for him. We sent gifts to Ed on Christmas eve, I wish we would have had him come over 
On Christmas Day Brian had to go to visit his GF's aunt but when he left Ed was wearing the pajamas & slippers we gave him for Christmas. There is an apartment in the basement & a kid the same age as my son rents it. He went upstairs to spend time with Ed before going to see his family for Christmas, he said Ed had pictures of his kids out.
When he got home a few hours later he checked on Ed again & he seemed really out of it. He tested his blood sugar & called his Mom who is a nurse, then called Brian. Ed was getting worse. Brian was just getting back to his GFs house. They called 911 & The attempts to revive him failed & they don't know if it was related to his diabetes-someone brought him a box of munchkins & he ate the whole thing or if he mixed pills he shouldn't have or if it was something else. Ed died in the PJs & slippers we gave him for Christmas 
Interestingly the ex-wife, her current husband & son showed up early the next morning blaming Brian & the other tentant for ed's death. The son who is in his 20's as well started a fight with my son, the police came & the ex-wife decided to have the police ask Brian & the other kid to leave because her name is still on the deed. Naturally Brian was horrified that Ed's son would say those things, Brian informed him that he has helped Ed take showers & other things that the son SHOULD have been doing but never even called. Luckily his girlfriend lives right there & he was able to move all of his stuff out right away.
The family claims they have no money for a proper funeral for Ed. Brian tried contacting the VA but they said it has to be handled by next of kin. Brian is so completely freaked out & he feels so guilty for leaving Ed home on Christmas.
The ex-wife gave Brian till Wednesday to find a home for Eds beloved dog Rusty. Brian is probably going to move back in with us.
In 2001 Brians best friends Dad was killed on 9/11, then a lifelong friend commited suicide, then another died in a freak motorcycle accident, then another was killed in Iraq, now Ed.
The hits just keep on coming.
So that's why I didn't ask for prayers for Ed's "family".
New Update- well ed's son tried not to let Brian know about the funeral but there will be a service at Calverton on Monday. They claimed they had no money, we offered to pay for it but I guess they just didn't want anyone to know what they were doing. They changed the date knowing Ed's brother from Florida won't be here in time.
Rusty the dog is in a new home with an older man that was looking for an adult dog 
Brian is so thankful that Ed will have a respectable military funeral as he deserves.
