Unreal. Who knew? Guess I have to add THAT to the list too! Next thing ya know, "researchers" are going to tell all preggos to just drink water and eat only organic romaine lettuce with oil/vinegar for the remainder of the pregnancy!!!

an occasional diet soda (I think I've had 3 in the past 20 weeks)

most of these things I have been told were no-no's by people other than my Dr. - the only things he said to avoid were drugs, alcohol, deli ham and limit tuna to once a week

hmmm... well since my doctor only advised me to stay away from unpasteurized cheeses and large fish, and limit tuna to once a week, the only times i went "against" her advice was eating fresh mozzarella a couple of times and tuna about 3x a week for a few weeks during my second trimester
other than that i've eaten anything i damn well pleased  except sushi. i have even had the occasional glass of wine or beer, and i drink non-alcoholic beer several times a week.

Nothing that my doctor told me I couldn't have, but I've had a lot of stuff that I later learned online or here that I'm not supposed to have. Like runny eggs, caesar salad, hollandaise sauce.
But I've done everything in moderation--will occasionally have some caffeine (though no regular coffee, except for 3 sips once), goat cheese (was told it was pasteurized), splenda, regular tea (i'm having iced chai this morning and it's delicious!), heated up cold cuts, hot dogs.

why is everyone saying hot dogs and bacon? they are not on the no list as long as they are heated up and are in moderation (due to nitrates), or am I missing something?
Oh btw - I bought nitrate free hot dogs - just as good as regular ones!

My doctor is very anti-fish - all fish. I've had tuna, shrimp, sushi, (mostly cooked stuff), and crab. He seriously needs to chill.
He never told me no cold cuts or hot dogs, but I've had those.
I also had a few sips of wine.
