Plane crash spinoff - women and children first?
How do you feel about "women and children first" in situations like this plane crash, titanic sinking, etc.
ETA: I heard a discussion about this on the radio. I was surprised about how many people were calling in and disagreeing with this.

Even before I had DS, I would say children first. I also feel they should have their parents with them.
I personally could not watch a kid drowing just to save my a$$.

i agree with this for a few reasons. one, as much as I am all about equality for women, most men are physically stronger than women. Most men would be better able to aid other people in a plane crash or other disaster more so than women. Also, some women may be pregnant and I tihnk it would be fair to get them off first. I also think guardians (Men or women) with children should get off first.

I'll be honest- it depends on the severity of the situation/nature of emergency. Trying to suss out the women and children might slow down people getting out.
Once out, then I agree the women and children and injured should have been taken onto the rescue boats/rafts/etc first.

I don't totally agree either
When I think... if it was my DH or my grandfather or my brother involved, I would want them out asap.
I can see women WITH children being first. But just regular women  IMO are not any more important than the men. I know in the older times women were saved b/c they get pregnant but I don't think thats applicable nowadays.

how does that not apply now? women STILL get pregnant......
I am pregnant right now and let me tell you if I was on that plane yesterday, believe me, I would have been asking for help!

I think if it's feasible, children & parents first. If I was sitting next to a parent and child on that plane, I would've been looking out for them that they got to safety first. I would hope others would do the same for me and my DD.

I agree with it, but I don't think it's realistic. I think people are more selfish now than they were back then. Heck, at WDW not a single man got up from his seat on the bus while my toddler and I stood. Women did, but not men.
I did see a man say on the news this was NOT the case though (women and children first). I was surprised because I saw that passenger interviewed after just coming from the water and told everyone he made sure he helped the woman and children first. So who knows what really went on.
