Phase 2-Delayed
Has anyone been following the news upstate?
The first 5 regions to enter Phase 1 are set to move into Phase 2 tomorrow. Cuomo declined to address this at his briefing today.
Reading articles from upstate papers, local officials were made aware at 7 pm tonight that they cannot move into Phase 2 until “international experts” tapped by Cuomo reviews their date from the past two weeks and deems them eligible to open.
None of the officials knew this until 7 pm tonight. Apparently they don’t even know what the “experts” are looking for in the date, or what the metrics will be to be allowed into Phase 2 since there’s hints that they won’t be the same as Phase 1.
I am livid. I understand precautions, but at this point I do not think Cuomo will ever allow the state of NY to reopen.

I hadn’t seen that.
I am in mid Hudson and our County Exec was saying today he thinks things will be moving quicker - but that was before this announcement.
I hate Cuomo
And he didn’t have the nerve to mention it at his press conference? He waits until the 11th hour?

I’m sure the county exec was saying that because apparently no one knew until a 7 pm phone call tonight.
I did see the announcement of these “experts” on a briefing last week, but at no point did Cuomo mentioned moving on to Phase 2 was at their discretion.
I had assumed, like many, the same metrics would need to be met to move on to Phase 2 after 14 days.

I had a feeling something like this would happen. I have very strong feelings LI will be stuck in phase 1 all summer, NYC until October. LI is now at only 30% hospital beds. We lose 1% tomorrow, are we put back on pause after two days? What is happening in this state?!?

This definitely doesn’t surprise me but hey he did shock me by allowing LI to open before NYC.
Apparently phase 2 businesses are taking appointments for June 10th in hopes that I guess we would move into phase 2.
I am not that optimistic but hey he has surprised me before!

Fauci said today he is feeling more confident as testing capabilities expand and said a second wave “is not inevitable”.
I just don’t understand what Cuomo is doing. We stayed in. We listened. We lowered the numbers. What now?!

Yes, in all of the news articles I’ve read tonight the local officials have all said they will not be taking any action against any business choosing to reopen tomorrow.

I don’t know about all summer for phase 1 but I do feel like he will not allow us to go to phase 3 or 4 which ever one would allow schools to open in September and he is going to hold us off. But again who knows he keeps changing the rules. Just like he originally said that he wouldn’t open NYC without LI and vice versa.

When he introduced them at his briefing last week, I said to a friend he must he desperate enough to find someone to agree with him that he had to look internationally.
But from what I recall, there are only two “experts” and one is from the US so not international, but they’re being called the international experts.

OMG I said this exact thing to my friend today!! Honestly, I think the suspicion with schools is right. I do not believe he wants them open until there is a vaccine. And this is his way of making sure kids will be home all of next year.

According to Patch, Suffolk is at 66% available hospital beds, and 58% available ICU beds. Is Nassau’s numbers that much higher than ours that we’re only just at 30% combined?

THis is intersting. THey changed hte NY forward chart. as of this morning, it still had the mubers for the crtieria that were met. nowit jsut has a check mark for 1 & 2. WHen there were numbers, you coudl see that many ofthe opened couties had an increase n hospitalizations, but they wer estill under the threshhold.
I also read about plae to open in the Finger Lakes & there was one restaurant that had decided that in stage 2 they would open their outisde tables even though wasn't allowed until stage 3.
What is also strange is that the lt. govenor said on wedensday that it was looking like stage 2 would start foriday & they would tell the counties on thursday.
