People who get married then seperate right away
Anyone know couples like this? A friend of my DH, who was actually in our bridal party and got married 2 wks before us, we just found out his wife moved out a couple weeks ago. They barely lasted 6 months and had a huge big affair. I just don't get it............

Unfortunately YES!!! One of my good friends from NC, got married in March of 06 and she moved out 5 months later!! He cheated on her during their engagemment and got another girl pregnant

I think it's an alcohol-probablymore-related issue with the guy. He's not one of my most favorite of DH's friend's to put it as politely as possible.
She was a cool chic too, so I hope they can work it out.

That really sucks!!
I understand that it must be embarassing to call off a wedding BUT I'd personally much rather do that then have to deal with a divorce. I hope it works out!

I know a few people who were in this situation. It seems easier to say they should have backed out of the wedding before getting married. The people I know thought it was just a rough patch. The wedding caused a lot of stress on the relationship and they thought once the smoke and lights of the wedding were over they would be okay. I agree that the relationships were rocky before hand, but it is hard and I feel terrible for any in this situation, but I give them credit for knowing this may not be right for them. Some people get so caught up in getting married they are blinded by the truth of what is in front of them.
Having a big affair or not you do what you have to do. Just because you have a big wedding doesnt mean you stay with a cheater or any other unhealthy situatuion. There is no acceptable amount of time IMO.

ITA. DH just had a family member call off the wedding only months before. I think it is way better to do it before hand, IMO, although I will say that a lot of people tried to push it off as cold feet.

We went to a HUGE wedding a few years ago and the couple split up less than a year after. They were together for probably about 10 years beforehand, high school sweethearts and all that. He was a big kid and spent all his money on technology and cars and she thought that would all end after they got married. She was wrong and she left. They both met other partners and both have kids and are now very happy.

we know unfortunately 5 couples who have not made it to their second anniversary...
some have been infidelity and other issues...but a bunch have been just "not working out" I feel it's a big trend amongst our age nowadays....

I know 2 women who got married because they either got PG or their kids "liked" their boyfriend.
I warned them that marrying someone because of children was never a good idea. Both resulted in very unhappy marriage and divorce.
While I agree that you should try to stick it out, I still think that it's better to stop a mistake early that keep lying to yourself and your partner for years then divorce after wasting years in an unhapy marriage.

Yes. We went to DHs friend's wedding in July. They've been divorced for 2 months now.
Apparently she was cheating on him before they even got married.

I don't understand that psychology...
For the situation where one partner is cheating prior to getting married..... why on earth did they go through with the wedding? obviously the other partner likely was oblivious to the cheating and that's why they got married... but the cheating spouse???!
I swear, people like that should have to compensate the other partner.... say, by paying for the entire wedding

I've been to two weddings that lasted only 3 months! One got a divorce, the other annulled.
NO, the gifts were not returned....( they never even opened/used them)

I know a couple where the bride caught her husband cheating on her about 6 months after the wedding and kicked him out.
Then she took him back only to find out that he was doing it again with the same woman - he got kicked out again.
She took him back a second time and then found out that he was doing drugs behind her back - She kicked him for a third time. I'm waiting to see if she takes him back a third time.

My cousin. She dated her boyfriend for 9 years. They got married and were divorced less than 5 months later. we even traveled to Florida for the wedding.

ita. though amongst the marrieds that I know that this has happened to, it was those that got married at a younger age who split, whereas those who were older fought it out.
regardless, it's sad when it happen.

We went to a wedding about 5 years ago for a family member. They were together 6 years and had a huge wedding on LI.
Three weeks later they were getting a divorce. The bride (not family) had been seeing another guy for over a year but felt like she had to go through with the wedding!!!!
He had bought a house for them and everything... it was devastating.

I don't know anyone who actually separated but one friend was talking divorce less than 6 months after the wedding. For her, I think it was an attention thing. She liked being the bride to be and all of a sudden, she wasn't and life was dull.
They worked it out and are approaching five years with three kids in tow!

Yes, friends of ours who were together for 13 yrs, got married 3 months before us and seperated 3 times by the time our wedding was here.

I don't get that either.  We do know couples who divorced very quickly, and I think a lot of it is women who think men will change when they get married, and 9 out of 10 times they don't change. If they drink before they get married, they'll drink after. If they play video games 24/7 before, they'll do that after...
