Paying a babysitter

What do you consider to be a fair price to pay someone hourly to watch your child?

We have used a non family member/friend twice. We paid $12/hr, DS is 12 months old.

We pay $10/hr for one baby (she's almost a year now). She's asleep for most of it but I don't mind paying for the peace of mind (it's my Mom's friend that we use).

I pay $10/hour for a college age girl ( a former student of mine) to watch the three kids.

Re: Paying a babysitter

$15/hr seems pretty standard.

We have a sitter we use at least 2X a month when DH & I go out and we pay her between $12-$15 an hour.

If we are going to dinner with friends & she comes at night, she is basically watching DS sleep, we lean towards $12, if she comes earlier feeds him dinner, plays for a few hours, we give her $15.

Re: Paying a babysitter

$10-12/hr for 2 kids (ages 3 and 5). We always round up so it works out to be an average of $13-15 per hour.

Re: Paying a babysitter

We pay ours $8 an hour, but we tip her well so it probably works out to $12 an hour.
