Ive done counseling with people who experience panic/anxiety attacks. Malls are very hard for people because they are crowded, loud, and overwhelming. Dont feel bad. When you go get a drink or something to eat. It will offset some of your symptoms. Gum is also good when walking around. Relax and dont forget to breathe in places that overwhelm you.

that kind of thing works mostly with anxiety...
Panic attacks are imo too severe to just eat something and calm down. Usually you have to leave if you can.

I actually would not recommend leaving as imo can onset avoidance. I would hold out the best you can. I wrote something on hear a while back about hating public speaking and feeling like I was going to die while up there in my current position. I held out and I actually feel alot better. I know for me, I definitely felt so panicked I wanted to quit my job. I know its very tough for people in so many areas. Hang in there.

true depending on the severity of the attacks....
IMO if they are really bad you just might have to leave. And go get some help before attempting to "stick it out".
It really depends on the person and the severity like i said. ....
IMO panic attacks and public speaking fears are VERY different....One is a phobia

Sorry, I just wanted to add one more thing. I dont want you to think that if you felt like you had to leave, that you shouldnt. You definitely should but ALWAYS take baby steps back into making your fear more comfortable. I made presentations my "Giant of fears". It controlled me instead of me controlling myself. When i took control back it felt better. This is the only reason I thought you should stay in the malls if possible.

Re: Panic/Anxiety Attacks-Can someone tell me about them?

I'm sorry, I just don't see the relation between hitting a phobia up dead on and an attack like I feel. I have been dealing with attacks like this since I was about 8 years old and I know that for me, I MUST walk out of hte mall for at least 5-10 minutes and get fresh air...after that I can return to the mall for a bit. Honestly, can just "toughing it out" cure me?

IMO fears and phobias are much different than anxiety or panic attacks

fears there is a specific trigger...Something that is never to be just confronted head on...

that is exactly why I am saying if you feel the need to go, please go. I just would hate to think that it could turn into avoidance meaning like agoraphobia. I sympathize with you as I have worked with many people in the hospital system. You know what works for you. Have you tried to see anyone to help you?

No, basically because I don't think its necessary. I go to the mall, I know its going to happen, I know I need to go outside for 5 minutes and then I am ok. That works for me.
