Re: Opinion(Nixzmary Brown Case)

There is no doubt that the parents were to blame, but ACS has some responsibility. They were aware that this child was being abused. However, through lack of resources, or lack of follow up the truth of the situation was never revealed. The warrant was never obtained. I used to do foster care law and termination of abusive parents rights and you can get proof. If they would have explored the house perhaps they would have seen something.

I think one the major problems with ACS is that, like any other city agency, they have overworked and underpaid workers, many of whom check out when the clock strikes 5. They may not have started out that way, in fact, I think most people get a job with ACS to make a difference. But when you are not being compensated well for your job or treated with the proper respect, especially in such an emotionally charged field, its a natural reaction.

If ACS is anything like the private foster care agencies, there is also a HUGE tunrover of staff because of the low salaries and that also results in things falling through the cracks.

They will suffer and in jail, and I hope they do. I know I shouldn't be wishing misery on people, but these people aren't even human!

I read somewhere that people who victimize children suffer the worst abuse in prison.

Don't you find it out that we're relying/hoping on the inmates to beat the crap out of the parents ?

In my criminal justice class,we were told that it's because most inmates were victimized as children too.

It's true. I know someone who is in prison now and he tells me stories of what happens to prisoners who kill or abuse children.

Yes i agree....

But i think people fail to realize all that has to go into these "investigations" .

The proof that is needed and how long and hard it is to get it.
And with the constraints that you mentioned...it is IMPOSSIBLE...

This isn't the first case....

And what i think is sad is that theyw ill come down hard on these workers and NOT provide any kind of relief, assistance or help....But rather make them MORE responsible in case of this happening again.

I think they deserve it-prison alone is too good for someone who does that to a little kid.

Once in a great while, I think an eye for an eye is the way to go.

I think it may change things for a while - while the agency is under the public eye - but unfortunately I dont think any major permanent changes will happen. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wasn't saying they dont deserve it I find it strange that we are relying on criminals to punish criminals rather than doing it ourselves.

I completely agree. And by doing this they are not helping, they are making it worse. They will be overloading caseworkers rather than helping by providing more staff and resources.

I feel that if the resources were in the hands of the worker to make a change then come down hard on them. If the worker assigned to the case sat there and didn't di anything to stop it then let them be punished. But I feel that ACS needs to tially evaluate the flaws in the system and therefore maybe making it better.

NewsDay Article

In light of what happened w/ Nixzmary Brown( the child who was beaten to death by her stepfather) Do you think this case will actually make significant changes to the Dept. Of Child Protective Services? Six were disciplined and some terminated, do you really think this will change anything?

honestly, no i don't

I agree too.

remember what happened in NJ with the kid eating out of the garbage. How much has changed?

I don't think that anyone just sat there knowing abuse was happening and didn't do anything.

And what makes you think that anything will change?

Has it be over 10 years since the likes of Joel Steinberg and many many others....

It is a system that needs HELP and i know deep down that they aren't going to get the kind of help they really need

well, if the case worker could have done more and it was in her power to do so and didn't then she will have to live with that. I don't know if the system will change, we all hope it does but will it? Who knows. Seriosuly, I'm going to do some seraching, I feel this has touched my life deeply and I want to act & do something about it.

Re: Opinion(Nixzmary Brown Case)

I feel awful about what happened to that little girl. My question...................DIDN'T THE NEIGHBORS HEAR ANYTHING? Why didn't a neighbor or something call the police when they heard the commotion. I'm sure alittle girl isn't going to be very quiet when she's being beaten.

I hope her mother does live in fear for the rest of her life. She should be beaten every other day so that she knows the hell her daughter went through. She should spend the rest of her life in jail, never to see her other children EVER AGAIN.

I hope the stepfather lives in fear for the rest of his life. I wish the other criminals beat him to a bloody pulp, let him recover and then do it again and again for the rest of his life. He should be starved for days and then fed and then do it all again and again. He should suffer every day for the rest of his life for what he did to that little girl.

The laws need to change to help these children and women of abused spouses. Look at Joel Steinberg, he's walking the streets of New York after killing his little girl. Why is he out? Why is he free?

Sorry I need to just get that off my chest. Thanks for letting me vent here!

seriously, I'm going to get involved. Maybe this is what I need to do to feel better about myself. Maybe because I feel guilty that I'm part of the system. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know what the caseworker in this particular case knew or didn't know. Having been there and done that, I can say it isn't always as easy as it appears to be. As a casework you run into so many hurdles and obstacles while you are trying to do the right thing, it's actually sickening. I have had my eye witness, professional testimony thrown out by a judge for no reason other then he wanted to side with the parents. That is just one example. I'm not trying to make excuses but share my own experiences.

I think more pressure has to be put on our politicians to protect our children.

Re: Opinion(Nixzmary Brown Case)

IMO the people much higher up are much more responsible for this child rather than specific case workers...

You wanna blame someone other than the parents..

there are over 10K cases still open!
TEN THOUSAND CASES!

think about that....and wonder if there are enough people working there to handle that

I agree that the people MUCH HIGHER UP are more to blame than the case workers themselves.

I also think that the family and friends of these horrific people are to blame as well. Do you mean to tell me that no one noticed anything weird about this situation, no one saw the bruises on this poor little girl...the grandmother or number of aunts and uncles didnt notice a thing????? Now they are all shouting out that they would have done something if they had known...if they had known??? Bull! Plus...did anyone see the "fake real father" of this poor little girl spouting his bull crap the other day...that he wants to "kill the guy"..where were you all that time??????? If you were a part of your childs life in the first place, dont you think you would have noticed something???? But now your trying to look like a hero saying that you want to kill the guy?? Oh please!!!!!!!!

I hope these monsters get tortured the way they tortured this poor girl. I cant even think of what will bring justice..I just hope something will.
