Dont be. I live, work and go to school in Queens. There are about 20 cases of the flu here. Be cautious and you will be fine.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't live in fear because of this thing. The flue goes around every year and I'm sure no one hides out from it. Just wash your hands frequently and if you do get sick go to the doctor right away.

Dude, if you knew how many germs and viruses you were exposed to on a daily basis without knowing it, you would never leave your house. Just take precautions and you will be fine!

Try not to let it scare you and worry you so much, I know it's easy to say and I am worried too,it's natural I guess. But you can't stop living bc of it. we just have to make sure we wash our hands a lot, even more than we normally would

Especially me because I rarely clean my house!   
ETA- but this works in my favor because I expose myself to a lot of filth and grime so I build up an immunity to it!

I visit my mom almost daily and she has three dogs, two cats, a turtle and SMOKES. I have the immunity of a insertsomethingwithafantasticimmunesystemhere.

I know some people find it funny but I hear your fear and i understand.
As much as some of the "jokes" on this thread are definitely funny, the poster has an actual fear that is not funny.
Back to the OP, I would just limit going to public enclosed places for now and use hand sanitizer, wash your hands alot and dont touch your eyes, nose or mouth while out. Instruct your children of the same if they are old enough to understand.

ITA. This is a legitamate fear. A yound 23 month child died. I have a 22 month child who is on the nebulizer and catches everything. I will limit my going out to the stores, museums, indoor playgrounds with him. I will make sure to keep up with my vitamins (aka airborns!!!) to stay strong. I can't stop living but I will take precautions. Wash hands more often, etc...
