Old fashioned in home birthday party???

Is it crazy to do an old fashioned in home birthday party for my soon to be 3 year old?

I don't want to a party at a kids place and her birthday is in August and in NC it is way too hot to have a back yard party (unless we get really lucky).

I may skip a big(ger) party for her this year but if I do something I was thinking of just having a normal kids and family party at our house with traditional kids games-pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, stuff like that. Kids running around wild. Cake, pizza, maybe some ziti and lasagna for the grown ups?

Are people put off by that these days?

We have the room for it, but I don't know...

I think it's a great idea as long as you have a lot of activities and games for the kiddies! I would go for it!

It wouldn't bother me at all - as long as you're prepared to accomodate the parents in your home.

I did go to a home party last year & my daughter had a blast. They made smores & had a scavenger hunt where they had to do different things at each station like Sing Happy Birthday into the video camera, take a group photo with the birthday girl, etc.

Go for it! Ilove at home parties they are so much better.

IMO i never understood having a 2 or 3 year old party at a place, it is so expensive and they will not remember it

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???

I WISH we had the room to have DD's birthday party at home. The worst part of planning her 1st birthday is trying to find a place to have it. Her bday is in August so it's extremely hot here in FL and it has to be indoors.

You are lucky... go for it!!!

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???

Other than DS' 1st birthday party we will only be having in home family parties.

I actually love those parties.

My friend has a big backyard bash for her two kids (brothday's are close) and it's an awesome time. She does face painting and games.

I did all my DS's at home so far, and plan to continue as long as I can...I much prefer them to having it at a place, where they sometimes feel "rushed"

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???

We did it for DS's 2nd birthday party and it was quite a hit. I was told by 2 different parents that their kids actually said "that was a great party- didn't we have a good time?" on the way home Chat Icon

I had out coloring pages and crayons, an inflatable ball pit, had the Cars movie going (that was the theme), a bunch of other toys and they made their own cupcakes. We had pizza and a big costco cake ($17! Chat Icon) and I got a tray of penne alla vodka and chicken something or other for the adults. Very good party.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???

We only had at home parties when we were little, so we will do the same. It just makes sense to us to not spend extra money for parties out.

Re: Old fashioned in home birthday party???

We have had only BBQ/Backyard parties for DS.

It will be his 3rd one.

I have a big backyard (for my area standards). A swingset, a bounce house, the roller coaster, a climber... you name it!

This year I am getting a pony.

Adults enjoys the BBQ. The kids enjoys the backyard and playing outside.

Nothing outdated about this!

We went to a "home" birthday party this past weekend. It was awesome - really a refreshing change. It was great watching the kids run around the yard barefoot, having ice pops, playing pin the tail on the donkey and wacking the pinata.
