Okay, DH just shocked me and I'm freaking out...
He is a trader on the floor of NYSE, but his actual firm is headed up in Chicago and he just got an offer from his boss to work in that office.....okay, he doesn't have any details yet and right now, he's planning to start his MBA in January. I told him that before we get upset, let's think about what amazing opportunities might come his way in NY before we drop everything and go.
Plus, and this may sound selfish...I don't want to leave my family....
We make a really nice living, it's not like we need more money or anything.
I need to relax...and get details.

Try not to get too upset yet. Maybe DH is just really excited to get the offer, but knows that he would not want to move.

Don't jump to anything yet. You have to wait until you know the details & plus DH & you need to sit down & weigh your options. This might be a good opportunity if both are willing

I've moved a few times (to different cities) and it's actually quite exciting! You don't have to stay forever! And Chicago is a close and frequent flight to visit family!

Awww..that would make me nervous..but, I doubt he will make a move (especially if you guys are financially comfortable) if your not happy with it.....
Tell him that I said the four of us STILL have to all gtg for dinner...lol..so you guys can't leave LI..

not that i will help but i LOVE chicago and its soo cheap to fly to and from nyk. i did it for $162 a month ago..
that aside, if he is anything like my husband, he probably gets excited about stuff and talks a big game, then when it comes down to it, nothing comes from it.
try to relax and get all the info from him. weve all been there when looking at new potential job opportunities...the excitment will pass and i am sure he and you will sit doen and make the right decision for both of you

We just moved to Chicago in May for Dh's promotion. It has "only" snowed once and nothing stuck. It was basically flurries, the sun was out that same afternoon and it was in the 60's the next weekend.
It was hard for us to make the decision, but it was an amazing opportunity for DH, so we took it. We love it here. It's a great city. Of course, we still miss everyone on LI, but we are very happy here.
It sounds like you still need to get lots of the details. Good luck making your decision.

breathe...wait until you get the details. Who knows, maybe it will include a relo package and a big raise...it could be a very good long term decision.
Try to remain open minded about it. Weigh all the options when you get the info.
This is exciting and scary all at the same time.
Chicago is great. I used to go to school there.

DH lived in Chicago for a few years after college. All he ever talks about is how cold it is there....but he did like it as a city. Sorry, I guess that doesn't help.

I used to live in Chicago. I love it there and would move back in a second. It's a great city and is a 3 hour flight or about a 12 hour car ride. Don't rule it out yet!

Well, I'm no help...but DH has been bugging me since we moved here to move to Chicago. Apparently, it's almost like NY (and some recent article named it the #2 best old city after NY) and both of our companies are HQ there. So he really wants to move. And it may be a possibility for us in the future.
Take a deep breath...and talk to your DH & get all the details. Then take it from there.
But at least he didn't say Montana! Chicago is a great BIG city w/a rich history.

This could end up being a good thing for you guys.
years ago my brother in law was a trader and got offered to transfer to run one of their dallas offices, they stayed there only 2 years before the company saw such great protencial and moved then back to NY. Now my sister is a STHA (LOL) (cause here youngest son will start college next september) and they are living on easy street.
