It's getting way too long to quote, but, you do realize how many millions of people live on Long Island alone right? So hundreds of people being home sick with covid really would have no impact on the amount of people in stores and restaurants. The arguments about this are just getting silly now.
1.5 million in Suffolk county. Out to eat and the mall is packed as well as every restaurant we passed. Eating out, no masks on staff and restaurant pretty busy too.

You will definitely start to see an increase in positive cases because we are back to testing normally healthy people who wouldn’t be going for a Covid test. ie kids going back to college, those who need to for work since they aren’t vaccinated, those traveling, etc.
We stopped requiring tests so of course the numbers were going down.
And for what it’s worth, my aunt had Covid last month and was given a treatment and walked right out of the hospital. Covid is no longer a death sentence and needs to stop being treated as such. Those that are higher risk have been vaccinated or are knowingly taking the risk.

At the beginning of this pandemic we shut down to stop the spread and help relieve the burdens on our health care systems. If we've achieved that now at this point then what's the end goal?
At this point COVID is not going away 100%. PERIOD. There will always be some risk. That's par for the course for any virus or any detrimental factor on society.
If we have already gotten to the point that we have decreased the amount of deaths and hospitalizations then great. Why are we reversing course??? Is this variant far more deadly than the prior one? Why are we ignoring natural immunity for those that had and survived COVID which by far and large is an overwhelming part of society?
ETA: This post was about offices mandating masks again. FTR: My office is still 100% voluntary RTO (large firm downtown Manhattan). Masks are only required outside of workstations for unvaccinated employees. We have to attest to being vaccinated which means we have to still wear masks in common areas (everyone regardless of vaccination status) or unvaccinated which means we have to wear masks in unvaccinated areas and test EVERY DAY we come into the office. TBH I never want to go back into the physical office. I work more efficiently and effectively at home but I understand that is not the case for everyone. At our last town hall people expressed more caution about RTO over crime in NYC, SF, Chicago then over COVID.

Include me in this too. The concern was overwhelming hospitals and deaths. We do not have that and while they say in other states it is bad, I actually watched a video of someone showing a hospital in south FL who claimed they were so busy they had to build an outside covid unit. There was NO ONE in the unit or any doctors or nurses near it.
ICU's will ALWAYS be filled up for the most part so when they claim the ICU is packed, that does not mean they are all covid patients. Yes, there might be covid floors but who can you really believe what it going on.
Here in NY I am hearing there are people coming in everyday to hospitals but are being treated and leaving. The deaths are very low here on the island which is great so there should not be any mask mandate or lockdown as it is truly not needed.

Exactly. It doesn't make sense. I don't want masks to be the new normal..sorry I don't especially not for my kids. Also has anyone looked into long term mask use and what type of issues can result from it? We were not made to breathe in our own air 8 hours a day straight..I'm sure there will be some type of health issues that come out of this eventually.
And its such a pandemic but we are still having large concerts, at this point we have an open border where thousands of COVID positive migrants are entering in every day, celebrities throwing big bashes but we're in the midst of a deadly pandemic? I'm just baffled.

Exactly. It doesn't make sense. I don't want masks to be the new normal..sorry I don't especially not for my kids. Also has anyone looked into long term mask use and what type of issues can result from it? We were not made to breathe in our own air 8 hours a day straight..I'm sure there will be some type of health issues that come out of this eventually.

There are NO huge spikes from these large gatherings either. People are not dying in large numbers (god forbid) because they are going to parties or concerts or events.
Even my mother who was thrilled to be vaccinated and said she did it (as she was so against it) so she can go back to normal said she put on her mask in a grocery store because half of the people had theirs on. I was like why would you do that? You are vaccinated and that is the reason you got vaccinated. It makes me mad because she has fallen into this fear mongering.

Don't surgeons wear masks regularly? Like wouldn't we have known long term effects of mask wearing already? I dont really think mask wearing is as dramatic as a lot of people are making it out to be.

Don't surgeons wear masks regularly? Like wouldn't we have known long term effects of mask wearing already? I dont really think mask wearing is as dramatic as a lot of people are making it out to be.
Aren't their masks N95's or surgical ones? Most do not wear that type.

We have to attest to being vaccinated which means we have to still wear masks in common areas (everyone regardless of vaccination status) or unvaccinated which means we have to wear masks in unvaccinated areas and test EVERY DAY we come into the office. TBH I never want to go back into the physical office. I work more efficiently and effectively at home but I understand that is not the case for everyone. At our last town hall people expressed more caution about RTO over crime in NYC, SF, Chicago then over COVID.
It seems as tho there is no end. It’s a constant moving goal post. I have been searching for what magic numbers will end the restrictions and can not for the life of me find it.

I teach. I’ve had very few kids complain about masks even when it is hot and humid. Most of my students wear surgical masks especially on hot/humid days as they are more breathable.
I hate masks, but wear them for the greater good when indoors. It’s a small inconvenience to protect someone if I happen to be unknowingly infectious. Not everyone who wants to be vaccinated can be vaccinated. People have compromised immune systems and many are obviously under 12 years old.
This pandemic has been eye opening for me. People are so selfish and can’t stand the smallest inconvenience to keep others in their community safe.
And yes NY’s hospitals are not currently overwhelmed, but we don’t live in a bubble. Other states are in terrible positions right now. Residents of those states can travel here and be infected and then need care here. My sister is a nurse on LI and they did away with their covid floor in June, but guess what - it’s back.

I am getting sooo tired of the word SELFISH. People are NOT selfish, they just have common sense what is going on.
How many are on that covid floor? Did they open it because they were so overwhelmed? Not one nurse on LI that I know or have read stories online have said they are so overwhelmed that they had to open a new floor.

I never said we would have 100% vaccinated. I am smart enough to know that is not a reality. But I am also smart enough to know REAL sources of information and consider them in making an educated choice for myself. Not once have you ever posted something REAL and legitimate regarding this virus. So go and believe the conspiracy theorists out there but until you provide a VALID source for your unsupported claims, I have zero respect for anything you have to say.
The virus does not have to disappear for life to be 100% back to normal - and no one with actual knowledge and information has ever said that. All you ever have to say is "someone told me", "I heard...", "Many believe...", "Everyone says..." which all mean absolutely nothing. Beyond ridiculous that you even attempt to come across as knowledgeable.

I never said we would have 100% vaccinated. I am smart enough to know that is not a reality. But I am also smart enough to know REAL sources of information and consider them in making an educated choice for myself. Not once have you ever posted something REAL and legitimate regarding this virus. So go and believe the conspiracy theorists out there but until you provide a VALID source for your unsupported claims, I have zero respect for anything you have to say.
The virus does not have to disappear for life to be 100% back to normal - and no one with actual knowledge and information has ever said that. All you ever have to say is "someone told me", "I heard...", "Many believe...", "Everyone says..." which all mean absolutely nothing. Beyond ridiculous that you even attempt to come across as knowledgeable.
92.1% of New Yorkers over the age of 65 are vaccinated. NY is at 72.3% for ages 18-64. What’s it going to take to end it?!?!
We were told 70% is the magic number.

Yea, ok.
Not sure what is so funny about actually questioning things. This vaccine was the END ALL BE ALL. Everyone HAS to have it, you will be fine. You can go back to living your normal life. Go rip off that mask 2 weeks after your 2nd shot and go and laugh at the unvaccinated as they will still have to be masked and you won't.
WELL, now you have all these vaccinated people getting sick. Some nothing to some dying.

And how can you not understand that if MORE people had gotten vaccinated months ago, the Delta variant would not have been able to spread as easily and we would not be going backwards like we are now? Everyone can make the choice themselves but you knew it would be a gamble with something that hasn't even been around long enough to see how it would work. The people who have had issues are questioning if they will even get it again so the numbers will go down, not up the next round.
Did you develop the vaccine, are you a scientist? You CAN become knowledgeable from others experiences also. I am sure you are aware of that. It is NOT all about YOUR experiences,

Windy do you ever stop to think that maybe these restrictions are being put into place to avoid what happened at the beginning of the pandemic here in the NY area?
