NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
Indoor gatherings limited to 10 people max
https://riverheadlocal.com/2020/11/11/new-york-orders-curfew-on-restaurants-bars-gyms-limits-indoor-gatherings-to-10/
This is crazy to me. The indoor gathering 10 max I get more than the curfew (although I don't think people will adhere)
But does covid magically appear at the 10 pm hour? What's the sense of this?

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
The thing is... at 10 pm the restaurants are way less packed then at say 6 or 7 pm. So what the heck is that doing???

And lets be real, you night have more than 10 people inside the restaurant during the day so what does this accomplish? I guess he's trying small restrictions to see of we can ring the infection rate down rather than a huge shutdown, which I can appreciate, but I just don't see the sense. I guess all indoor parties up to 50 people are out now too...

What that is doing is limiting the amount of time with people in close proximity indoors, hence reducing the number of potential infections.
They are looking at the group at large, which they need to and should do, not specific individuals.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
Has there been a study/trend/research that shows restaurants are super spreaders? Like what creates a higher risk in a restaurant that they are imposing new restrictions.
I understand bars-people get drunk and can be careless. But if you are sitting at a table and eating & drinking, why is that risky. Doing this to restaurants doesn't make sense and just hurts an already hurting industry.

Indoor dining has been allowed on Long Island since early June. If spikes had been traced back to that he would have shut it down for sure. So I don't see what the issue is. I'm also not sure who is eating dinner in a restaurant at 10 pm but sucks for them now I guess...

Ugh - right before Thanksgiving. I guess the kids and I will be celebrating just the three of us because my family gathering is too large and DH has to work.

I understand but restaurants are quiet that time of night....

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
I know it is ridiculous, just like sitting at a bar. You have to order food with a drink. So I wont get Covid if I have food with my beer?

I was in a bar yesterday and they had those make shift plastic structures between the seats... so 2 or 3 stools then this plastic barrier that you can see they made themselves out of wood and plastic. But the thing is, they were lower than the stools. So me sitting up on a stool- could sneeze or cough right over the stupid thing. I was a full head and half taller than it. We were laughing about the design flaw of the things.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
I always thought Cuomo did a great job. But, this just makes no sense to me. We do a lot of work with restaurants at my job and I can't tell you how many have closed, or simply can't pay us. This is going to be bad all around.

Re: NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
I think the restaurant is to prevent restaurants form turning into bars & people hanging out just to drink after they have eatrn their required food. That's just my guess.
Some places ( in other countries ) have had city wide curfews which never made sense to me, streets & stores will be more crowded as everyone tried to do what they have to in a small window.
Cases are increasing though, so , i guess they feel they have to do something. I don't know if they have any idea what specifically is causing the recent increases..
Going from 50 to 10 for gatherings seems extreme. that seems like intentionally trying to prevent holiday parties, but that only works if people care. There have been reports of several weddings & other parties over 50 people, and those are just the one that got caught.
This does get me out of Thanksgiving with my i-nlaws though. . .

i will be seeing very few of the relatives who feel they have to educate me on why their political view point is the only way.

They wouldn't because its immediate family but I remember how people were calling the cops for people having more than 10 gathering when this all started. I took my kids to east wind on Halloween to trick or treat at the shops (candy tables were set up outside each shop) and the cops were there. Someone actually called the police to report that kids were trick or treating. You know how crazy some people can be...

I think it would depend on the number of cars present and how obnoxious your neighbors are to alert someone that you may be breaking a rule.

I think they would only know after the fact if people got sick. I think you have to use your own judgement, but if you need an excuse to bail, the government is giving you an easy one.

I guess but some cars could be for my house, some could be for the neighbor on the other side of me or across the street, it's hard to tell who is in what house with the parked cars on a residential street. Especially on a holiday. I'm not saying have 50 in your house, but if you need to have 12 I don't see it as a big deal. If the cops show up hide 2 in the closet and call it a day.

Wow. Trick or treating is not a crime. The fact that the cops had to waste their time on that, is disgraceful. Whoever called should be ticketed to be honest. Taking them away from important calls over something 100% not criminal. Maybe if they started fining you for wasting cops' time these Karen's would take a seat.

This happens ALL THE TIME in my neighborhood. They call the cops on outdoor seating, lines for stores where people are less than 6 feet apart, everything. And everyone follows the rules. I've never seen anyone without a mask. People jog with masks. They're doing absolutely nothing wrong.
