NYC teachers- a question re maternity leave and paying back days
I had my DD in 2007, and borrowed a bunch of days to extend my leave. I have figured out that I will still owe 12-13 days by the end of this school year. 
I really, really, really want to leave the DOE at the end of this school year. I read somewhere that you can instruct the payroll secretary to repay the days by deducting a day's pay (or more) per pay period.
I asked my payroll secretary and she said it can't be done. However, I think she is either misinformed or just does not want to do it for me. Does anyone know what is correct? Otherwise, I imagine it will all come out of my pay at the end and I'd rather take the loss incrementally than lose almost a month of my summer pay.

I went to the maternity work shop in November you can def buy back days. I borrowed 10 and plan on buying back one a pay check. I don't know yet how you go about buying back but I am going back to work tomorrow and will try and find out the details. Also, try calling HR connect. They can probably direct you.

My husband borrowed a whole bunch of days due to being in a car accident. His secretary told him that as long as he is in school he can buy back days whenever he wants to and they take it out of a paycheck. There is some sort of formula but I would definitely call the main office. In dealing with my husband's injuries and days out I have found that way too many people like to make up their own rules so they don't have to do extra work.

SHe is wrong. I have paid back days. I did it through my payroll secretary and two checks deducted one day.
I would speak to her again, and if not maybe call HR Direct?
She is definitely wrong.

Call HR...it has been my experience that Payroll Secretaries don't know all that very much!
