NYC teachers...maternity leave question

My DD was born 12/28/09 and I had a C-Section so I get 8 weeks off. She will be 8 weeks next Monday, 2/22 and my payroll secretary says this is the day I'm supposed to go back, but I thought that would be considered the 8th week and I wouuld go back the following Monday 3/1...does that make sense?

Anyone know the answer?

nope...unfortunately she is right...if you count the week she was born as week one.week 8 ends on the 19th (if we are talking M-F)

ETA: But I am not sure .. i forget...how it works when vacation is within the 8 weeks (bec that first week is Christmas week!) Sorry now I am really no help! If the vacation wasn't in there I would say she is def right..but now I am double guessing myself!

Sorry to crash, but I actually know the answer to this.

If a vacation falls within your maternity leave, it still counts towards your time out.You don't get docked sick days on weekends and vacations though.

She is right. They start counting as soon as the baby is born - that is week 1. Also, all school holidays and vacations count towards the 8 weeks. The good thing is that you won't be deducted any sick days for next week since the schools are already closed.
