Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

I dont know what to do! She will be 18 months tomorrow and she is so not ready for a bed. She actually fell trying to get down and started crying, that is how I knew she was out.

Im seriously so stressed about this and not ready to deal with this.

I need help please.

Why don't you think she's ready for a bed? I was always under the impression climbing out of the crib was the first sign they are ready for a bed.

Awe Chat Icon Chat Icon It's ok....

if you don't want to transition her yet, go to BBB and get a crib tent.

We've been using one for Bella for a very long time now and she loves it. Has no problems and there's no more worry about her climbing out and potentially getting hurt.

Oh boy! Chat Icon

She's probably ready soon - on the bright side, you probably don't need a new crib for Chat Icon

I planned on transitioning Ryan if he starts climbing out - right now he doesn't attempt it in his bed, but is just mastering getting up on the couch and chairs - it won't be long before he figures out the crib.

Try the crib tent if you're not ready. I always wondered, if they climb out and don't want to be out (ie crying when falling out) then do they stop climbing? Lesson learned? or they just do it to do it?

Thats what Im trying to figure out too! I wonder if she is too scared to do it again or if now she just realized she has to try a different way of getting down. She mastered getting off my bed from falling. It didn't scare her off, grrrrr.
Im going to go and get her crib tent and see how we do with that. In the meantime, I will sleep outside her room LOL

Re: Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

My DS climbed out over the side of the crib about that age. We rigged it with a toddler rail attached to the SIDE of the crib. The ends of the crib are much higher than the sides so he couldn't get out. A couple months later he went out of the end and fell pretty hard. Hasn't tried it since. He is now almost 2 1/2 and STILL in the crib. We will probably be transitioning him in a couple months but only because he is getting too long to be comfortable in his crib.

I'm with you. I KNEW at 18 months DS was NOT ready for a bed and I think I was right.

Hang in there, this stress too shall pass. If it's not one thing it's another, right?

I know people that put a mattress on the floor for a little while before purchasing a bed.

I'm not sure how crib tents work since I haven't had the issue. If she's climbing, you may want to also consider securing dressers (ESPECIALLY TVs), if you haven't already.Chat Icon

Ant was in a bed at 20 months. Now that she is a crib jumper, you may want to start getting her used to a toddler bed. It will be okay....trust me!Chat Icon

Re: Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

DD almost did the same thing today. I came in and said good morning. She likes to arrange her animals before I pick her up so I told her to do that and turned around to get her clothes ready. All of a sudden I hear "I can climb out" and she has one leg over the side, her whole body resting on the rail and the other foot braced half way up the bar. I waited to see what she'd do and caught her as she fell. I told her if she tries that without Mommy and Daddy she will get a boo-boo.

Her 2nd B-day party is this weekend so I'm not sure if this is the right time to transition into a bed with a lot going on around here. I also feel she isn't ready for a bed, she sleeps all over her crib. Some people have suggested leaving the rail down so the fall isn't as far (if you have a rail you can lower). I'm really not sure what to do either.

DD climbed out a t 19 months and I know that she was not ready for a bed so we got her a crib tent. I hated it at first and felt terrible but she never had any issues with it and at 34 months, is still sleeping with it on her crib and does not want to come out of the crib!

Taking a trip from Gilmore Girls --- is the back of her crib higher then the front? If so, you can turn it around.
If not, looks like you're getting a bed.

Re: Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

DD started climbing out at 18 mos too. After a week of her getting out, and one night of it occurring constantly, we converted her bed to a toddler bed with a rail. It took another week of getting her to stay in the bed, but now she doing ok.
I did not think she was ready either but DD had other plans. It was a long two weeks where I kept thinking I would never sleep again, but looking back it went by fast!Chat Icon

Re: Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

DD climbed out 2x at that age. I talked to her and told her not to do it because she could get hurt. She nevrr did it again...I think it scared her when she got stuck trying to come over the railing.

She is 3 now...and STILL in the crib,Chat Icon

I think if she does it again though...get a crib tent. I personally think 18 mths is too young for a toddler bed ...but thats just my own personal opinion. A lot of women on here transitioned that early with no problems.

Im thinking of switching Aly soon.I guess its about time at age 3Chat Icon but shes such an awesome sleeper...Im afraid.

Re: Nina climbed out of the crib this morning

DD started that @ 2 weeks ago. She fell trying to get back in!! I just let her be. She fell asleep on the floor after DH & I refused to go in and get her, and after a bit she stopped. She hasn't climbed out once this entire week.
